Outdoor Learning

We had a great day taking part in outdoor learning on Monday with education specialist, Kate Hookham. The children learned about and took part in knot making, building dens, safety around fires in a fire pit and using tools. It was a super day with lots of learning for the children and staff!

Our butterflies hatched!

The children have been following very closely, the transformation of 5 caterpillars into a butterfly. We released them on Monday, not before they landed on our hands!

Instrument Instructors concert

We were very lucky to get a visit from a combination of instrument instructors who have collaborated together to go around the schools of Shetland, show casing what is on offer. We enjoyed renditions of Disney classics, familiar cartoons and even had the Up Helly Aa song!

New starts first transition

Today we had our 3 new P1s in for a visit. We explored the school, played, had a story and went for play outside. The older children joined us for a play. It was lovely seeing the new starts feel so comfortable.

Knitting Club

Lizzie has started the knitting club today. We look forward to taking part in this every Friday afternoon. Thank you Lizzie for volunteering and helping us to knit!

WW2 Topic – The Blitz

The children have been learning about the Blitz during WW2. They have been learning about Gas Masks and Anderson Shelters. They have been practising finding safety during and Air Raid siren.

AHS transition

Transition events have started for our Primary 7s. This week they got to meet their new Depute Head Teacher and have a tour of the school. The firm favourites were the Science, Home Ec and CDT classrooms!

Shetland dialect songs

Claire White visited us this week. She taught us about some Shetland tales, played her fiddle and we created our own stories. We even managed a Boston-Two-Step!

Skills Academy Scotland

We had a visit to the Scalloway Youth Centre where a STEM event was delivered. We learned lots about types of energy, testing batteries and making circuits.
