{"id":578,"date":"2020-05-05T11:01:04","date_gmt":"2020-05-05T11:01:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/sh\/brae\/?page_id=578"},"modified":"2020-05-05T12:04:14","modified_gmt":"2020-05-05T12:04:14","slug":"who-is-asn-support-for","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/sh\/brae\/who-is-asn-support-for\/","title":{"rendered":"Who is ASN Support For"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Additional support for learning means giving children extra help or support so they can get the most out of their education.<\/p>\n<p>A child or young person is said to have \u2018additional support needs\u2019 if they need more \u2013 or different support \u2013 to what is normally provided in schools or pre-schools to children of the same age.<\/p>\n<p>There are many reasons why a child might need additional support for learning.<\/p>\n<p>These include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>finding it difficult to control their behaviour<\/li>\n<li>not making themselves understood (because English is not their first language or because of a speech and language difficulty)<\/li>\n<li>being bullied<\/li>\n<li>being abused or neglected<\/li>\n<li>caring for someone at home<\/li>\n<li>having difficulties with reading and spelling<\/li>\n<li>being far ahead of their classmates in their subjects<\/li>\n<li>changing schools a lot<\/li>\n<li>having a disability<\/li>\n<li>being a young parent<\/li>\n<li>dealing with the death of a loved one<\/li>\n<li>being looked after<\/li>\n<li>having mental health worries<\/li>\n<li>having an alcohol or drug problem<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>It is not possible to list all the reasons because it will depend on the child. Children are affected by things in different ways \u2013 one child who has lost a family member may struggle at school but another will not.<\/p>\n<p>Your child might need support for a short time, or
