Outside learning for P4

P4 enjoyed some outside learning last week, exploring and identifying the living things around the Clickimin Loch.

Using their identification sheets the children had a great time finding lots of plants and trees we have growing in Shetland, these included primroses, bluebells, buttercups, birch and alder trees. They also heard and saw some insects and birds enjoying the sunshine.

Marine Wildlife Roadshow

P4 – P7 had a great time at the Marine Wildlife Roadshow learning all about the marine environment and the current challenges the creatures face due to litter and plastic pollution. The children learnt how important it is to recycle plastic to stop this going into the sea and how beach litter collections can make a difference to our marine wildlife.

The children really enjoyed meeting the inflatable sea creatures.

Busy term for P4S

Its been a busy term so far in P4S. To start our topic ‘Shetland Fishing’ we had a trip to the museum to find out about fishing in the past.

We then had a visit from ‘Frankie’s Fish and Chips’ to understand how our fish get from sea to the plate. This also included some yummy tasters. We really enjoyed picking up and feeling the different sea creatures they brought in to show us!

We also enjoyed an amazing trip to see the Antarctic ll fishing boat in Lerwick, to find out more about how we catch the fish we eat. We learnt about the different parts of the boat and the jobs the crew have. I think we have some fishermen in the making!
