Bell’s Brae Primary School is a finalist in the Education Award category in the Helping It Happen Awards 2021! Organised by Scottish Land & Estates, the awards are now in their fifth year.
The winners will be announced at a free virtual ceremony at 19:00 on Wednesday 27 October as part of their online celebrations, in lieu of a physical ceremony and dinner.
This award celebrations our partnership with the Lerwick Port Authority and Shetland Amenity Trust to plant around 70 trees and shrubs at Holmsgarth, assisting the port in rewilding an unused area of the port estate. This planting was very relevant to the primary 4 classes work on ‘Living Things’ and their current work on ‘Recycling and Climate Change’.
Anyone interested in viewing the ceremony can register interest here. A joining link in advance of the ceremony will be provided, when this is confirmed.
In partnership with Lerwick Port Authority we have been involved in the Light the North, Lighthouse trail.
This trail shines a light across the north-east, Orkney and Shetland with fifty lighthouse sculptures designed and created by some of the UK’s most talented artists.
At the end of the trail, each of the lighthouses will be auctioned off to raise funds for Clan Cancer Support, providing support to people affected by cancer across the north-east, Moray, Orkney and Shetland.
The pupils in our current P7 class designed and created a lighthouse which can be seen on display in Mareel.
In order to raise awareness of this trail an activity sheet has been designed by our art teacher, Ms Birnie and the P7 pupils. Any pupil can collect a paper copy of the activity sheet from Ms Birnie or print off one from below. Completed sheets should be returned to the class teacher. Any pupil who hands in a completed sheet will receive a reward.
The end of term always brings mixed emotions. Everyone is excited about going on holiday but there is also sadness at having to say goodbye to so many lovely pupils.
Our current P7 pupils have had a year like no other but they have shown tremendous resilience . Our school vision is ‘Bell’s Brae is a community where everyone achieves and gains happy memories’. We know they have all achieved and sincerely hope they leave here with many happy memories.
We were so fortunate to receive some sponsorship from Greig Seafood Shetland to allow us to purchase waterproof suits for all our P1 pupils. This has allowed the children to get outside every day to have fun playing with their classmates and benefit from fresh air, exercise and outdoor learning.
