Children have been modelling staff asking their peers about numbers in their play.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

“3”.\u00a0 \u00a0 “12”.\u00a0 \u00a0 “4”.<\/p>\n

A staff member wrote the numbers 1 to 5 on the chalkboard outdoors. A child copied the numbers then other children joined in writing number 4’s too.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

“Look I done a 4”.\u00a0 \u00a0 “I’m doing a pink 4”.\u00a0 \u00a0 “Number 4 down here”.\u00a0 \u00a0 “I’m 4 on my birthday”.\u00a0 \u00a0 “Making number 4’s”.<\/p>\n

Staff provided the items for children to explore matching number and dot patterns outdoors.\u00a0 The children used felt numbers and matched them to the dot pattern beanbags.\u00a0 There was only numbers 1 – 10 but the children used the individual numbers to make larger numbers.<\/p>\n

Children previously collected leaves during an autumnal walk in our local community.\u00a0 They then used these in their play in the outdoor mud kitchen, scrunching them up and mixing them with water and sand.<\/p>\n

“Crunchy”.\u00a0 \u00a0 “These are autumn leaves”.<\/p>\n

After noticing that children were keen to add vehicles to the sand tray indoors, staff provided a play opportunity outdoors with sand and vehicles.<\/p>\n

“I want to play in the sand”.\u00a0 \u00a0 “I need the excavator”.\u00a0 \u00a0 “I have the digger”.\u00a0 \u00a0 “Here you go”.\u00a0 \u00a0 We need to share”.<\/p>\n

Staff set up a table with lots of sensory items for children to explore.\u00a0 There was lots of engagement and discussion during this activity and children created a large sensory collage which was then used as a landscape for play with the dinosaurs.<\/p>\n

“This is sticky”.\u00a0 \u00a0 “The leaves are crunchy”.\u00a0 \u00a0 “This is so fun”.<\/p>\n

Children moved their vehicles around in the ‘mud’, before moving them to the soapy water to clean them.\u00a0 They explored different types and textures of brushes and sponges when doing so.\u00a0 Children used lots of different language during their play.<\/p>\n

“Rub a dub dub”.\u00a0 \u00a0 “This one is fluffy”.\u00a0 \u00a0 “Clean, clean, so clean”.\u00a0 \u00a0 “It’s so dirty”.\u00a0 \u00a0 “Oh no, you’re so muddy.\u00a0 You need to go in the car wash”.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
