Children have had the opportunity this week to plant seeds to grow their own flowers.\u00a0 The children listened to instructions and had to use their concentration skills to follow each step including scooping the soil, creating a small hole for their seed and planting the seed.\u00a0 The children discussed the importance of why seeds and plants need sunlight and water in order to grow.\u00a0 Staff discussed with children and made comparisons between the nutrients in the soil and in the food we eat in order for us to grow, some children then found it easier to understand this information and the concept of needing nutrients to grow.<\/p>\n

“We water them”.\u00a0 \u00a0 “I planted seeds with my Granny”.\u00a0 \u00a0 “I was planting, and I can take it home”.\u00a0 \u00a0 “We need to do seeds to grow some flowers”.\u00a0 \u00a0 “I holding da shovel”.\u00a0 \u00a0 “Holding da seeds”.<\/p>\n

Some children also helped to harvest some vegetables they had planted seeds for recently.\u00a0 They were keen to take some radishes to try at snack time.<\/p>\n

“We grew this from seeds”.\u00a0 \u00a0 “We needed to water them”.<\/p>\n

Children have been busy playing board games with their peers recently.\u00a0 They particularly enjoyed playing ‘eels and ladders’ and took turns with their friends.\u00a0 Some groups chose to play using the coloured side while others chose to use the side with numbers and had to recognise and count the spots on the dice to move.<\/p>\n

“Red, pink, yellow”.\u00a0 \u00a0 “I got 3”.\u00a0 \u00a0 “1, 2, 3”. “1, 2, 3, 4, 5”.\u00a0 \u00a0 “I got the crab”.\u00a0 \u00a0 “A ladder”.\u00a0 \u00a0 “My turn next”.\u00a0 \u00a0 “Can we play this game now”?<\/p>\n

Groups of children have been showing a keen interest in completing jigsaw puzzles, at times completing the larger jigsaws with their friends.\u00a0 Some of the jigsaws were too big for the table so the children took them to the story corner to complete so they had more space.<\/p>\n

“I need help”.\u00a0 \u00a0 “Can you help”?\u00a0 \u00a0 “This one’s too tricky”.\u00a0 \u00a0 “This one goes here”.\u00a0 \u00a0 “This is an excavator”.\u00a0 \u00a0 “I did it”.\u00a0 \u00a0 “I want to do the princess one”.<\/p>\n

Children have been busy in the block play area working both individually and in groups with their peers.\u00a0 Children displayed teamwork and co-operation skills whilst learning to share with their friends.\u00a0 They used their imagination to use the blocks in a variety of ways, including using the blocks like dominoes and creating a spiral design.<\/p>\n

“I’m going to start it”.\u00a0 \u00a0 “Not yet”.\u00a0 \u00a0 “Is it ready now”?\u00a0 \u00a0 “No”.\u00a0 \u00a0 “Now it is ready, can you take a photo”?\u00a0 \u00a0 “We were making a circle to fall”.\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0“My friends help me”.<\/p>\n

Children have been practicing their scissor skills by cutting out items in magazines and sticking them onto paper to make their own scrapbook of things they like.<\/p>\n

“Cutting some papers”.\u00a0 \u00a0“I put in my picture”.\u00a0 \u00a0 “I love this”.\u00a0 \u00a0 “We’ve got this at our house”.\u00a0 \u00a0 “I would like a slush maker for my birthday”.\u00a0 \u00a0 “16 pounds”.<\/p>\n

The Nursery received a special delivery of tiny caterpillars recently and the children are very keen to observe the changes each day.\u00a0 We have been discussing lifecycle and each stage the caterpillars would go through to turn into a butterfly.<\/p>\n
