Advanced Higher work by Ruby

Ruby’s subject was the landscape, she worked from photographs and some on site sketches to create the final images. Her focus was also on mark making and colour harmony.

Still Lifes

This is a small selection of the high quality Still Life Final Outcomes produced by our National & Higher pupils last year, an impressive and colourful visual treat! The overarching theme for both year groups was “Food & Reflections”. They have responded to this theme and individualised it especially at Higher level. All these Still life paintings demonstrate the pupils observational and media handling skills and display the amount of effort, time and detail that goes into one element of the course.

AH History Field Trip

Advanced Higher History pupils visited the Library and Shetland Museum and Archives this week to do research for their dissertations, and get experience with newspaper microfiche, primary sources, books and documents related to subject area.

They also got to access the Museum handling collection.

En-route, they visited some local sites connected to Lerwick during WW2, including Shetland Defence Battalion HQ at Hayfield and the NAAFI, where they took ‘then and now’ photographs

Voxter Residential Activity

The recent Voxter residential activity supported a group of pupils in secondary two, secondary three and secondary four from the Anderson High School to benefit from employer engagement/inspiration. The focus of the event was to give pupils the opportunity to explore their curiosity and work on their collaboration meta-skills, as a group, within an employability focussed environment. The pupils had a great time, visiting employers and doing activities like den building, mindful walks, drones, robot building, music challenges, cooking challenges, crazy golf and both building and launching a rocket.

The employers pupils engaged with included Cooke Aquaculture, Busta House and the Shetland Recreational Trust.

A huge thank you to colleagues from Developing Young Workforce, the Anderson High School and the SIC’s Youth and Employability Service for organising this opportunity for some of our pupils.

Shetland Youth Orchestra

On Friday 15 September, S1 pupils were treated to a performance by Shetland Youth Orchestra. A wide variety of music was performed including, amongst others, The James Bond Theme, a Lin-Manuel Miranda medley, and March to the Scaffold from Symphonie Fantastique by Hector Berlioz.

It was a great opportunity to hear some well-known tunes played by this talented group and we would like to thank them for coming along to entertain us and let us experience live music in this way.
