Travelling Art Gallery visits Aith – Tuesday 30th August 2016
The Travelling Gallery is an art gallery in a double-decker bus which travels around Scotland to areas where accessing an Art Gallery may be difficult. The exhibitions are contemporary from Artists living and working in Scotland now. This particular exhibition displayed four works by artists that use technology in their work.
The first piece of art that caught your eye was IN THE FIELDS it was by Nicole Heidtke and Stefan Baumberger. The piece of art work was about the Crinan canal in Argyll & Bute in Scotland. It is a site familiar to them and close to their home in Tarbert. The piece had 15 small globes each of them filled with the water from the 15 locks that are in the canal. When the travelling art gallery goes to the Crinan Canal then the globes of lock water will spin.
The next piece of art that you can see is the piece at the back. It is very clever the painting by Torsten Lauscmann is about a concert and is called 50,000 HOURS the painting is on a solar panel and the sunlight powers the light that are in the phones of the painting the phones cameras flash then lights up so it looks like they are taking a photo it is very clever. It is called 50,000 HOURS because that is the lifespan of a solar panel.
The other piece of art work is by Charles young and is probably my favourite piece because it’s the inside of a boat and is made up of lots of small models made of wood. It had an engine room, Living room and a wheel house I liked because it was like you were looking at a boat from another world where everything was smaller. Charles young has also made some small model buildings that were in a drawer and were made out of paper. Charles young since August 2014 has made a model out of watercolour paper. He has over 1000 now and is still going. He is hoping to put all the models together to make a place called Paper Holm. He is going to make a small remote controlled boat that he is going to drive around the small paper city with a camera on the front so they can see what it would look like to live there.
The last bit is by Dennis and Debbie Club form Glasgow and is a virtual reality art piece you put on the Oculus Rift head piece and you feel and see an apartment that has been made and put into a virtual world. It was really cool you could see a blue whale flying in the air past the apartment. It was one of the coolest experiences ever. You could look around everywhere and see pieces of their other work of art.
I would love to see the travelling art gallery back at Aith again it was such a good experience and also very fun!!
