Football Friendly Match: Anderson High School vs. Mid Yell Junior High School

The 60/40 hosted an entertaining game of football as Mid Yell JHS visited the Anderson High School on Friday the 9th of November. The teams played a very competitive first half with plenty of chances at both ends. The deadlock was finally broken just before half time by AHS forward Marta Leslie. In the second half, both teams continued to work hard but the AHS slowly started to create more chances against a young but determined Mid Yell side. The AHS scored six more times in the second half through Tash Matoba (2), Tegan Hendren (2), Lois Philips and Kayla Shearer to make the final score 7-0. Both teams should be commended on the effort, ability and determination displayed throughout the match. A special thanks to referee Ross Nicholson who did an excellent job overseeing a game played in a very sporting manner.

S2 SPORTS DAY

What a great day today with our S2 sports day.  Unfortunately we were not blessed with some of the fine weather we have been having lately however, the day was still a great success.  There were some excellent individual results as well as collective efforts from our four house teams which were resurrected from previous years – Hermaness, Noss, Fitful and Ronas.  Photos below  of the winning team and individual winners.

Gerard Trophy

Bucksburn Academy 3-6 Anderson High School

A squad of Secondary Three footballers recently travelled south to participate for the first time in the Aberdeen & District Schools knockout competition for the Gerard Trophy. AHS were drawn against Bucksburn Academy with the game kicking off at 10:00 am on Saturday 16th September. AHS started nervously and were a goal behind within the first couple of minutes. Gradually, however the players found their feet and took control of the game scoring three times before the interval, Ben Mayes netting twice and Gary Scott also on target. The home side rallied at the beginning of the second half scoring two quick goals to restore parity. AHS then began to dominate possession creating a number of chances and gained a penalty when Mathew Robertson was felled in the box. Captain Brandon Talukder stepped up to convert the spot kick. Bucksburn tried to fight their way back into the match but never really created another clear chance and AHS always looked dangerous on the counter attack. As the game entered the latter stages AHS scored a further two goals to produce a scoreline that better reflected their dominance with Ben Mayes getting both to cap a fine individual performance. Coaches Paul Regan and Alister Williamson were delighted by the efforts of all the squad and look forward to playing against Harlaw in the next round. The Anderson High School would like to thank Northlink for sponsoring the team’s travel to the match.

Sports Day 2017

(Photos: Top – event winners; Bottom – winning team – Ronas)

This year’s Sports Day took place yesterday with around 250 S2 and S3 pupils taking part in a variety of events.

The level of performance and competition was high throughout the day with all six team’s looking to score as many points as possible for their team. The theme for many of the team names this year was old school house names which were used in previous years given it was the last Sports Day at the current Anderson High School.

Team Ronas finished the day as the winners of the event scoring a massive 928 points.

The P.E. Department would like to thank all those who took part for their efforts throughout the day as well as staff and pupils who helped organise, run and supervise events.

Badminton Banter!

Around fifty pupils enjoyed two fun filled days of badminton during this year’s activities. Learners were treated to a variety of games and technique drills with Mr. Smith and his wonderful assistant Mr. Williamson. Activities included fast feet drills, Jail break, Netty and Swiss draw tournaments to end both days.

Enthusiastic participant Cameron Boxwell said that he had a “great time” and “that is was a great way to get into badminton”.

A big thank you to all those who took part for making both days very enjoyable for everyone.

P7 P.E. Transition Day

P7 students from the AHS feeder primary schools recently enjoyed a range of activities in the AHS P.E. department as part of their transition programme.  Approximately 150 learners took part in a number of team based activities led by S3 volunteers. The day was a great success with many new friendships being forged.  We look forward to seeing everyone again on their return to the Anderson.

We would like to thank all the S3’s involved for their organisation and enthusiasm throughout the day.

Let’s All Go to the Circus!

A group of Secondary 3 pupils were treated to a Let’s Circus workshop last Friday by a talented group of performers with skills ranging from plate spinning to mind blowing acrobatics. The Let’s Circus group have been touring in Shetland for the last couple of weeks performing to sold out crowds in many venues.

The pupils involved were heavily involved in a number of different activities and had a great time with many learning a new skill like juggling or hoola hooping. The group’s Ringmaster Steve Cousins passed on a powerful message to the group saying that his performers were only able to achieve such a high level of performance by not being afraid to fail and using their past experiences as motivation to achieve their goals.

Well done to those that took part and a special thank you to the Let’s Circus performers.

Bears win S1/S2 Football League

The S1/S2 Lunch time football league came to an exciting end with the Bears (captained by Matthew Robertson) winning the title by a single point over the Broncos (captained by Brodie Hutchison).

The standard of play was excellent over the course of the tournament with multiple players standing out in every game played. All teams played with a high level of sportsmanship and competitive spirit leading to the top seven teams only being separated by five points after seven rounds of play.

The tournament’s top scorer was Ben Mayes who scored an impressive seven goals in only five games.

Well done and thank you to all who took part!
