{"id":68,"date":"2019-03-13T11:29:24","date_gmt":"2019-03-13T11:29:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/sh\/ahsmusic\/?page_id=68"},"modified":"2023-06-20T21:09:59","modified_gmt":"2023-06-20T21:09:59","slug":"advanced-higher-music","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/sh\/ahsmusic\/courses\/advanced-higher-music\/","title":{"rendered":"Advanced Higher Music"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>Aims of the Course<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>The Advanced Higher Music Course is designed to help learners develop their knowledge of music concepts and music literacy and to integrate and apply this understanding in practical learning activities.<\/li>\n<li>Develop performing skills in solo and\/or group settings on their selected instruments or on one instrument and voice.<\/li>\n<li>Perform challenging music with sufficient accuracy while maintaining the musical flow.<\/li>\n<li>Create original music using compositional methods and music concepts creatively when composing, arranging or improvising.<\/li>\n<li>Broaden their knowledge and understanding of music and musical literacy and identifying a range of music signs, symbols and music concepts.<\/li>\n<li>Critically reflect on and evaluate their own work and that of others.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Description of the Course<\/h2>\n<p>The course has 3 elements:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Performance<\/strong> \u2013 You will learn and perform music in a variety of styles and genres and developing skills on the 2 chosen instruments or focus on a programme of performance on one instrument as well as producing a composition folio (over and above the composing assignment). By the end of the course you must reach Grade 5 standard or above.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Composition<\/strong> &#8211; You will study composer\u2019s work and learn how to use compositional techniques to compose an original piece of music lasting 1 minutes to 4 min 30 seconds.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Understanding Music<\/strong> &#8211; You will develop a knowledge and understanding of musical concepts, musical theory and a range of musical styles and periods.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>How is the Course Assessed<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Question Paper<\/strong> (35%)<br \/>\n1 hour 15 minute question paper based on concepts and literacy work covered in class.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Assignment &#8211; Composition<\/strong> (15%)<br \/>\nCompose 1 piece of original music lasting min. of 1 minute and max. of 4 min 30 secs.<br \/>\nSelect a piece of music by a different composer and analyse the compositional methods and music concepts that have been used.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Performance \u2013 Instrument 1<\/strong> (25%)<br \/>\nPerform a minimum of two pieces on their chosen instrument or voice for a minimum duration of 6 minutes <strong>\u00a0<\/strong> (must be grade 5 standard or above)<\/li>\n<li><strong>Choice of: <\/strong>(25%)<br \/>\nPerformance \u2013 Instrument 2<br \/>\nBoth instruments should be total minimum time of 18 minutes, maximum time of 20 minutes, <strong>\u00a0<\/strong>and must be grade 5 standard or above.<br \/>\nOR<br \/>\nPortfolio<br \/>\nCandidates compose a minimum of 2 pieces of music with a minimum duration of 6 minutes<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Aims of the Course The Advanced Higher Music Course is designed to help learners develop their knowledge of music concepts and music literacy and to integrate and apply this understanding in practical learning activities.
