Peerie Maakers

Shetland Peerie Maakers is a two year pilot project in Shetland that helps enable skilled volunteers to provide free Shetland hand knitting lessons to youngsters’ knitting groups.

Shetland Peerie Maakers meet as out-of-school groups, and their knitting projects, in pattern, colour and design are decided by the youngsters themselves, encouraging the creativity of Shetland’s textile culture to continue.

Anderson High School Maakers and Yakkers have close links with Peerie Maakers and  as a result we have received 6 free maakin belts and continue to receive free wool from Jamiesons which is a great help to the group.
