Christmas Coffee Morning

The annual AHS Christmas Coffee morning takes place on Saturday 3rd November from 10-12noon.  Along with a variety of stalls there will be live music, Santa’s grotto, glitter tattoos, teas, coffees and homebakes.  For the second year running there will also be a knitters neuk where folk can come along and join in with some knitting fun. Please bring along your knitting project and join in.  If you don’t have anything on the wires don’t worry there will be projects you can pick up and add to on the day.  There will also be a few items of knitwear for sale, made by some of the group.

The maakers are also busy producing knitted christmas cards which will be on sale on the day.  Hopefully see you there 🙂

Mass production of Christmas knitted cards is in full swing.

Tak Your Sock night

Another successful Tak Your Sock was held last night in the lovely surroundings of the School Library at the Anderson High School.  Eighteen knitters got together for two super hours of knitting, with the usual variety of projects ranging from lace shawls to hot water bottle covers.   There was also a significant amount yarning and a few home bakes and cups of tea involved as well 🙂

Tonight we had a special guest from Iceland called Asta Jonsdottr who is in Shetland just now attending the Relate North Conference.  Asta got the knitters involved in adding a few rows to a project she was working on.  Asta had started using wool she bought in Iona and was now wanting Shetland knitters to add to the project using Icelandic wool of colours she thought would depict the Shetland landscape.  Soon a queue was forming with knitters keen to add a few rows in the colour of their choice.   This gave Asta a chance to have a chat with the individual knitters and take a video of their hands at work.   It was great to spend the evening with Asta, hear about Iceland and sample some Iceland chocolate.

The next Tak Your Sock night will be held sometime in February/March

Shetland Wool Week 2016

AHS Maakers and Yakkers had an absolute BALL at Shetland Wool Week this year.  A huge thanks to Faye Hackers for letting us be involved in the Fashion Show, Carol Christiansen for displaying our work at Isleburgh and to Misha Hay for providing funding for the Outdoor Centre Trip.  Thanks also to Elizabeth Johnson for giving up her time to teach us how to spin at Hoswick and to Brita Hovenmark for accommodating us at the Textile Museum.

Tak Your Sock Nights

We have so far held three “Tak Your Sock” nights here at Anderson High School, in the old Library building.  These events give knitters of all ages and abilities the chance to get together with their knitting.  This is always very well attended with knitters coming from as far away as Yell.

Everybody is welcome to come along and put a few “geng on their sock” before having a cup of tea and some homebakes.

The next Tak Your Sock night is planned for Wednesday 9 November 2016 from 7-9pm.  We’d be delighted to see you there.

The group to see Sandra and receive this gift. The book will provide inspiration and some pupils are hoping to make some of the patterns in the future.  The money will be used to buy more Shetland wool.  The group would like to say a huge thanks to Jamieson and Smith for their support and encouragement.
