Throughout the National 5 Hospitality course, you will cover 3 main areas:
- Cookery Skills, Techniques and Processes
Throughout your practical cookery lessons, you will develop your knowledge and understanding of a range of cookery skills, food preparation techniques and cookery processes. You will also develop a clear understanding of the importance of safe and hygienic practices.
- Understanding and Using Ingredients
During your theory based lessons you will develop your knowledge and understanding of the diet in relation to health and current dietary advice. You will also develop your knowledge of ingredients, their characteristics as well as the importance of sustainability.
- Organisational Skills for Cooking
During your planning lessons, as well as your practical cookery lessons, you will develop organisational and time management skills through planning and implementing time plans for the recipes you cook.
We would encourage you to cook at home as much as possible as this will allow you to practice the skills and techniques you cover in class, as well as increase you confidence and pace of work!
