Jason outdoor activity Day Report

Yesterday Skeld Primary 4-7 drove from Skeld school to Kergord’s forest. On the bus we had to figure out how the same person can’t step in the same river twice. The answer was that you’re getting older every second.
At Kergord we walked through the forest in a path. We walked like a snake so wherever the front went the back went. At one point we had to climb over a tree. It was tall and made me feel nervous to climb at first. There was a branch that we had the choice to climb over or under the branch. At first most of us ducked under the branch but the second time all of us climbed over the branch. I felt amazing after climbing over the branch.
After walking for awhile, we had to lie down and look up at the tree tops in Kergord for 3 minutes. Occasionally some birds flew by. I felt slightly bored because I prefer to move about.
Later, we had lunch. I had a cheese sandwich and an apple for my lunch. I liked the lunch
After lunch, we had one hour to make a shelter. We could only get sticks from the ground. We were split into different groups. Me and Lewis picked up sticks while Loui-Bo and Nicola put the sticks on the shelter. During the process we made the R.I.P hole, the mud slide and Erin’s suicidal route. The R.I.P hole is a hole that Stephanie fell down that slightly hurt her. The mud slide is a very slippy slide that is made of mud.


After making the shelters, we played a game called the best game in the world. How you play it is one person stands in one spot and they can’t move from that spot. They count to 20 and the other people hide while the counter counts to 20, they have to look for the hiders. If the catcher sees a hider, they say their name and they have to come to near where the catcher is. Once you can’t see any more hiders then you count to 15 and everyone has to get closer to the catcher. repeat this on 10 and 5.
After playing the best game in the world a few times, we went on the bus back to the school.

kergord Out Door Activity Day

Yesterday we had to come to school on time for Pete. Pete is the man who is going to be leading us through the forest; he came at 9:45. When he came he set out oil skin jackets and oil skin trousers. We had to have three layers of clothes on then we set off for Kergord
When we got there we went through a big grassy bit with lots of flowers called celandine I felt very chilled. We went over a fence and over a stream then we went into a huge forest once we were in the forest we had to sit down and wait for the others. Then we had to listen to all the things that we could hear around us like the trees and the birds. I found this enjoyable because I was somewhere where I was free and could listen to the wildlife.
After we had to follow like a snake, where the head goes the tail goes. We came to a medium sized tree, we had to climb it.

There was a branch in the way, we had a choice we could go under it or over it. Most people went under but on the second go we all went over it. When I was going over I felt a bit unsafe and a bit scared that I might fall, but I made it.
We went over a tree that had fallen down. After that went over a rope that was barley of the off the ground it had a rope above to hold on to. After allot of walking we had a rest. We had to lie down and breathe for three minutes while we were listening we dug our feet into the ground dug our feet into the ground because it was really boring. However I felt good and really rested after a minute. Then we walked to a camp and had break.
Then we walked down from the camp and we got split up into groups to make huts. The groups were Nicol, Stephanie, Erin and Emma then team 2 was Loui-bo, Lewis, Nicola and Jason. We went off and made huts it was really fun Erin made a suicidal route. Stephanie fell in a hole of stick and she named it the R.I.P hole. Next to the hole was a flask, which Erin found.
We made a hut from a fallen down tree and it had a sticks for the floor and grass and leaves over the top for a carpet. After an hour or so we went back to the camp, when we got back the fire was going and we had our lunch. We argued about all our forts we said we had the U.S.A army at call. Then we had to say good things when we went to see the forts they were both brilliant.


Then we played a game called “The Best Game In The World” so one person had to stand and count to 20 but they can’t move so if they find someone then they count down from 15 then you have to get closer then count from 10 then 5 the closest person wins. Then we had to go down the forest in pairs, then after we had gone over the fence we had to share the best 10 second of the day then we got in the mini bus and went back to the school.

Kergord activity day

On the 20th of March we went to Kergord Forest. I hadn’t gone before, because last year when we were going I was off ill, so I was really excited to go. The man that took us was Pete Richardson; he took us in his red minivan. When we were getting ready we needed hats and waterproofs and rucksacks because it was going to be freezing. I had one t-shirt, two jumpers, trousers, waterproof trousers, waterproof jacket, two pairs of socks and some boots. It was like I was going into a blizzard
When we got there we went through a path near the trees and saw little yellow flowers called celandine. We did a thing where we had to follow exactly what Pete did and we went over things and under things, sometimes we had to put our backpacks over the tree just so we could fit. Everyone always tried everything. It was really cool because at first it was just walking, then going around trees, then going under trees, and eventually between their branches and over them.
We went to this tree where we had to either go over or under the branch. I went under at first because I was the first one to go and I wasn’t sure how easy it looked. Only Nicol and Lewis went over the tree first. The second time we all went over it, it was really scary but I felt really proud after I went over.
Even after that we went on this broken tree and had to walk up it and then down it. It was really arched and it was scary going down it. After we had gone over it once, we were all ready to go under it, but then we had to go back the way we came, which had more going-down time. It was really scary going up and down.


After that Pete said we should lie down and breathe, to see what the forest was like when you were really concentrating and paying attention. We sat in quiet and breathed for five minutes, and after we got up half the class had been kicking and pushing the ground so there was a lot of the grassy and muddy ground kicked up into piles, it was funny how one half was perfect ground left yet on the other side it was covered in mud. It was peaceful when you were sitting, watching the trees and hearing the birds. I don’t think I could have done it for much longer though, because I was really excited to go walking again.
We went over rivers and stuff until we came to a bench where we spread out, and we made shelters in two teams of four. I did my shelter with Nicol, Erin and Emma we made our one camouflaged next to three or four piles of sticks. There was loads of mud and we all kept falling over, it was really fun. There were two sides we built our shelter on, and a river separating them so we had to go across a bridge to get either side.
We went to a small house for lunch part 1. We had two lunches, one before and one after we built our shelters. It was good knowing after we had carried big sticks and ran up and down the hill looking for sticks that we still had food and drinks to have.


On the way to the bridge there was a pathway and grass, when Pete told us to go on the path Erin thought he meant the grassy bit, so she slid down it and it was really funny because she came out covered in mud while the rest of us had gone down the path. From then on we went down that path and it was like a slide.
At me, Nicol, Emma and Erin’s shelter there was a pile of little sticks it was like a really big bonfire. We made our floor out of sticks and grass so I was looking for sticks. I got to the other side of it and then I suddenly fell in a hole. It was about half a metre deep, it didn’t hurt when I fell and I was laughing really hard. It took me five minutes to get out because there wasn’t much space and it was 2 metres to the hole out. I think I made a pathway through there, it’s really cool.
After that we went for lunch part 2, and when we were there we kept talking about the shelter. Pete had lit the fire in there and it smelled of smoke, he told us the story of Lucky the lamb. Lucky the lamb was a lamb who fell down a crack into a cave, and he was stuck and couldn’t get up. Pete saw it and went to touch it, he thought it was polystyrene but realised it was alive. He found it was a lamb and took it up to the top of the cliffs, where Lucky ran to his mum. It was a really nice story.
After lunch everyone was really excited to see the other groups one, and when we did it was amazing. The other group, Lewis, Nicola, Loui-Bo and Jason, made a really cool shelter, they even had a roof and there was a lot of space. I loved the place they built it in; our place was surrounded by fallen-down trees and sticks. Their place was open, by the water and was really nice and clean compared to ours. After we looked at theirs we came down to our one, they came inside and said nice things about our one. It was really nice getting our shelter complimented since we had spent ages making them.
After we had done that we went to the bench and played the best game in the world. The best game in the world is a game where someone stands in the middle of the benches and everyone else hides around them in the trees. The catcher can’t move, and they count to 20 while everyone else hides. Then they have to look for the hiders, and if you see them you shout their name. Then the catcher counts down from 15. Then they still look, and count down from 10. After they’ve done that, if they haven’t found everyone, they tell the remaining hiders to show themselves. The person who is closest is the winner, and is it for the next round. It’s a really fun game. There were rocks and trees and piles of grass to hide behind, I hid under a rock once and wasn’t seen even though I was only three metres away. Some of us even hid behind the big tree only a metre away, sometimes we weren’t seen even though we were so close, it was really fun.
After we played those games we started to head back after a really fun day. We had to go down in pairs to the fence and tell our partner our favourite part of the day. My favourite part was when we were building the shelter because we worked so well together. We walked back to the bus and went home. My first time in Kergord was a really fun day and I hope we go back some time to build shelters and walk again.

Should Space Exploration Be Funded Debate

On Wednesday 12th March primary seven had a debate on whether or not space exploration should be funded. We were on the side that thought that space exploration shouldn’t be funded and Harry Rose was on the opposing side.


Leading up to the debate we had to research both sides of the debate so we knew the topic inside and out. When we had researched both sides of the debate and written a balanced report we had to decide on which side of the debate we wanted to be. Since Nicola wanted to stop funding space exploration and I wanted to continue funding space exploration we had to do rock paper scissors and we ended up doing that space exploration shouldn’t be funded.


Then on Wednesday it was finally time to debate but before the debate happened everyone voted on what they already believed to see if after the debate anybody’s minds had been changed. Some of our arguments were that their are countries that are spending money on space exploration when they have people that need fresh food and clean water. We also argued that a lot of the benefits of space are indirect like the antigravity pen that millions of pounds were spent on and why couldn’t they have just used a pencil.
Mr Rose had some amazing arguments including how a lot of technology comes from NASA like the computer chip, and that we wouldn’t have TV if it wasn’t for space exploration because there would be no satellites. Once we had both made our points we were allowed to ask questions to each other then the audience were allowed to ask questions.


Once all the questions had been asked it was time for the final vote. The first vote showed that everyone wanted to stop funding space exploration but on the final vote it showed that everyone except for one person had changed their minds so that meant that Mr Rose won.

The Alien Invasion

An alien flew in his U.F.O to Venus,
Whoever invented the shuttle was a genius.
For some reason though he started to burn,
This never would of happened on Saturn.

The alien needed to fly home fast,
He did come home at last.
The alien came home very soon,
As he does live on Neptune.

Tomorrow the alien will be three,
He can go to Earth finally.
The alien wanted to go since he was one,
This is going to be a lot of fun.

Very soon the alien had to go to his bed.
So he brushed his sharp teeth and went in his quilt coloured blood red.
He thought about going to Earth all night,
The people were going to get a huge fright.

Looking into Space by Loui-Bo

One day I was looking into space,
I was thinking what a wonderful place.
I was looking at all the stars,
Mercury, Venus, Earth and Mars.

I can see red planet Mars,
And I’m not talking about the chocolate bars.
I can see the red hot sun,
I’m hoping my eyes won’t burn.

The crescent moon shone bright,
What a beautiful sight.
Mercury is not tall,
In fact it is a little small.

I saw some comets made of ice,
They’re not as small as mice.
Good bye moon,
See you soon.

Did you hear about the space race?
Their pace is not slow, it is a real show.
The RU is on the chase,
Hope they don’t trip on their lace.

If you send a space man into space,
He will fly into a better place.
Everyone wants to get a car on to Mars,
No I’m not talking the chocolate bars.

I would like to live on Venus that’s no lie
But I’m scared I would be crushed and die like a piece of pie.
On Venus it’s over a thousand degrees,
I would melt like stringy cheese.
My face would turn purple then blue
Oh well there goes my stew !

Some nights I look in the dark night sky
and see the fiery stars shine bright up high,
Poor old space station that was the tech but now is a little speck,
When he comes throttling back to earth it’s a complete wreck.

My Space Poem

When I look out into space,
I see stars all over the place.
I see the moon up in the sky,
Up past where aeroplanes fly.

I see Mercury, Venus, Mars,
And Saturn clustered in loads of stars.
Jupiter, Uranus, Neptune too,
Can’t see Pluto, need a telescope I assume.

I see a flash of light, a meteor!
I can barely see it, it’s just a blur.
Now there’s a rocky asteroid,
Once I’ve seen it I’m overjoyed.
Chunk of ice, it’s a comet,
I wonder what they’d look like from a rocket

Bright blue light, must be the ISS
Astronauts there get trained to their best.
I see a tiny, shiny, satellite,
I can never see this stuff in the daylight

Everything I see outside,

Kindness Missions complete

At the begging of last term we started to get kindness missions. These are little challenges that one or two people in the classroom get every day. To find out if you had a mission or not before break you had to look in the jam jar with your name on it. Inside you would either find a piece of paper saying “you are an awesome and amazing person but today you do not have a mission.” Or you would have a sheet of paper with a mission on it. The missions could be anything that would make a person feels nice. Like compliment everyone in the school.

If you had completed a mission at the end of the day you would tell Mr Hewitt who would put a piece of popcorn on to our chart.

We were promised that when we finished the entire chart we would get to watch a movie with juice, popcorn and sweets

When we finished our chart on Tuesday we were super excited to being able to watch a movie the next day. The movie we chose was cloudy with a chance of meatballs 2 and we all really enjoyed it and especially loved the foodimals.

Shrove Tuesday

Today we made posters on shrove Tuesday in groups. Primary 1-7’s all got a coloured piece of paper with our names on it. Then we had to find the people that had the same coloured piece of paper as you.

The orange group was Hermione, Erin, Sophie and Aidan. The purple group was Me, Nicol and Kyle. The gold group was Lewis, Jason, Fraser and Emmy. The grey group was Nicola, Laura, Noah and Katie. The blue group was Stephanie, Emma, Bethanie and Abby.

So once we got into our groups we had about forty-five minutes to find out what shrove Tuesday was, what lent was. We had to draw pictures of something to do with pancakes and finally we had to find a pancake recipe. If we didn’t finish it all in the time we were given we wouldn’t get to make pancakes the next day. It was break time and we still had eight minutes left so Mr Hewitt paused the timer.

Once we restarted the timer after break we got the last things done. Then we got seven minutes to stick all the stuff we did and make a poster. We all Finished in time so we all get to make pancakes tomorrow.
