Borders Book Festival

On Wednesday the 4th of September Sprouston Primary School went to the Borders Book Festival Schools Day at Galashiels. It was held at the Macarts Theatre and the Volunteer Hall.

The whole school got on a bus to Galashiels. We dropped the nursery-p4 at the Volunteer Hall while the p5-7 went to the Macarts Theatre, were we were going to see Vivian French and Justin Davis. The first author we went to see was Vivian French. She started by talking about what her book was based on and where she got her ideas from and then she talked about where she got her character ideas from. After her speech me, Dougal, Saskia and I were recorded and put on the radio. Justin Davis started talking about where he got his ideas from and his double job as an author and a flight attendant. After that we did monster top trumps (his book was about monsters).

I would like to say thank you to the people that organised the Book Festival and how much money they spent on it. I would also like to say thank you to Vivian French and Justin Davis for giving up there time just for us.

The Scottish Borders Annual Chess competition

Yesterday me, Connie, Rory and Lucas went to the chess competition in the Volunteer hall in Galashiels. Twenty five primary schools took part in total. We played against St Boswells, Burgh, Denholm, St Peters and Gordon. I won my first three then I lost one then I won the next one. I was disappointed to not win a trophy but I did get a certificate.

I’m thankful to Mrs Dalziel for teaching us chess and for taking us to the chess competition.

I really enjoyed it and hope to go to it next time.

Big Booky Breakfast

To celebrate World Book Day we decided to have A Big Booky Breakfast. We asked the parents to come to our school with their kids and bring a book each. Once we had shared our books with everyone we all had cakes, croissants and pain au chocolait with jam.

I enjoyed seeing the kids, getting to know new people and to experience seeing new books. The food was awesome and I hope everyone enjoyed it.
