David Ashby and Gribblebook’s Book of Unpleasant Goblins

On Thursday the 13th of June, David Ashby author of Gribblebob’s book of Unpleasant Goblins came to visit our school to talk about his new book. David Ashby lives in Sweden and was visiting his family. We found out lots about him: That he had always wanted to be an author when he was younger, that he got the ideas for the book from when he was walking to his home in Sweden, that he had been inspired by a small stone that looked like a small book and that it was his wife’s suggestion to write about it. So he did. Also he had named the character Gribblebob was because he just thought it suited his character as most Goblins aren’t very nice.

We also found out how the book came to be written. Once he’d written the first 10,000 words he saw a post on the internet from an editor asking for entries. After that the editor asked if he could send the rest which he hadn’t written! It’s his first book and he’s written another but it’s not published yet. He still hopes that he can write lots more books in the future. I thought it was an amazing experience as we have never done anything like it!

Thank you to David Ashby for coming in and speaking to us, we all loved it!
