{"id":2930,"date":"2025-10-07T13:31:36","date_gmt":"2025-10-07T12:31:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/sb\/professionallearning\/?p=2930"},"modified":"2025-10-21T16:06:45","modified_gmt":"2025-10-21T15:06:45","slug":"breaking-up-fights","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/sb\/professionallearning\/2025\/10\/07\/breaking-up-fights\/","title":{"rendered":"Breaking Up Fights"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>27 November 2025<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000\">Please note new timings:\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000\">9am until 12:30pm OR 1pm until 4:30pm<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Business Suite, Council Headquarters, Newtown St Boswells<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>CPI\u2019s Breaking Up Fights\u2122: Intervention Skills Training provides staff with the<br \/>\nskills to prevent fights, assess risk, and respond with appropriate interventions.<br \/>\nThe programme, led by one of CPI\u2019s experienced trainers, takes 3 hours to<br \/>\ncomplete and is split into two parts:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Part 1 covers the theory element of how staff can best prepare themselves<br \/>\nbefore, during, and after a fight incident. This section will remove ambiguity<br \/>\naround staff responsibilities, improve risk assessment and decision-making<br \/>\nto reduce repercussions, and upskill staff with evidence-based preventative<br \/>\nmethods.<\/li>\n<li>Part 2 contains the programme\u2019s physical skills. Staff will learn the key<br \/>\nprinciples of physical intervention and the six essential skills to maximise<br \/>\nsafety and minimise harm to all involved.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>After successful completion of the programme, learners are certified to practise<br \/>\nskills for 2 years.<\/p>\n<p>Facilitation Methods<br \/>\nThis interactive programme is taught by one of CPI\u2019s experienced trainers entirely<br \/>\nin-classroom\/face-to-face and can be delivered on your school premises. The<br \/>\nprogramme takes 3 hours to complete, so it can be delivered during a twilight<br \/>\ntraining session. Alternatively, two programmes can be delivered back-to-back<br \/>\n(morning and afternoon) to two groups of participants during an INSET.<br \/>\nFor the theory element of the course (Part 1), access to a large screen or projector<br \/>\nis essential. For the physical skills section, we recommend ample space and floor<br \/>\nmats for each sub-group.<br \/>\nTraining can be delivered in groups of up to 24 participants.
