{"id":240,"date":"2022-12-07T12:24:07","date_gmt":"2022-12-07T12:24:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/sb\/peebleshssfl\/?page_id=240"},"modified":"2022-12-07T16:09:45","modified_gmt":"2022-12-07T16:09:45","slug":"scottish-studies-award-scqf-level-4-5","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/sb\/peebleshssfl\/scottish-studies-award-scqf-level-4-5\/","title":{"rendered":"Scottish Studies Award"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/th.bing.com\/th\/id\/OIP.9F1_TrP4rghZpZQttQEogAHaJz?w=118&amp;h=180&amp;c=7&amp;r=0&amp;o=5&amp;dpr=1.5&amp;pid=1.7\" alt=\"Map of Scotland in blue with Scottish flag (Saltire) superimposed on it\" width=\"116\" height=\"177\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The Scottish Studies Award provides opportunities for learners to develop their knowledge and understanding of Scotland &#8211; its people, language<\/p>\n<p>s and dialects, society, culture, natural environment and heritage &#8211; and to make connections across the curriculum.<\/p>\n<p>The Award has a broad and flexible framework, providing opportunities for personalisation and choice, and reflects a range of subject areas.<\/p>\n<h4>Award Level<\/h4>\n<p>The Scottish Studies Award is offered by the SfL department at SCQF levels 3 to 5.<\/p>\n<h4>Entry Level &#8211; what do I need to do it?<\/h4>\n<p>There are no prerequisites for entry to Scottish Studies.<\/p>\n<h4>Course Content &#8211; what will I learn?<\/h4>\n<p>A key feature is the opportunity for the Award to be tailored according to pupils&#8217; needs and interests.<\/p>\n<p><strong>SCQF level 3:\u00a0<\/strong>pupils complete a total of four units &#8211; the mandatory Scotland in Focus unit, plus three Units from at least two of the following groups, all with a Scottish context:<br \/>\n<strong>Group 1: Language and Literature<\/strong> <em>(options include understanding language and producing language)<\/em><br \/>\n<strong>Group 2: Society and Environment\u00a0<\/strong><em>(options include business, geography, health &amp; food technology (contemporary food issues), history, modern studies, people &amp; society and investigating religion &amp; beliefs)<\/em><br \/>\n<strong>Group 3: Arts and Culture<\/strong>\u00a0<em>(options include analysing media and creating media, art &amp; design and drama)<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>SCQF level 4: <\/strong>pupils complete a total of four units &#8211; the mandatory Scotland in Focus unit, plus three Units from at least two of the following groups:<br \/>\n<strong>Group 1 Language and Literature<\/strong> <em>(<\/em><em>options include English: analysis &amp; evaluation, English: creation &amp; production, Scots Language: History &amp; Development, Scots Language: Understanding &amp; Communication)<\/em><br \/>\n<strong>Group 2 Society and Environment<\/strong> (<em>options include environmental science, geography, health &amp; food technology (contemporary food issues), history, modern studies, people &amp; society and investigating religion &amp; beliefs)<\/em><br \/>\n<strong>Group 3 Arts and Culture<\/strong> <em>(options include analysing media and creating media, art &amp; design and drama)<\/em><br \/>\n<strong>Group 4 Business, Industry and Employment<\/strong> <em>(options include business, creative industries, travel &amp; tourism and uniformed &amp; emergency services: an introduction)<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>SCQF level 5: <\/strong>pupils complete a total of four units &#8211; the mandatory Scotland in Focus unit, plus three Units from at least two of the following groups:<br \/>\n<strong>Group 1 Language and Literature<\/strong> <em>(<\/em><em>options include English: analysis &amp; evaluation, English: creation &amp; production, Scots Language: History &amp; Development, Scots Language: Understanding &amp; Communication)<\/em><br \/>\n<strong>Group 2 Society and Environment<\/strong> (<em>options include environmental science, geography, health &amp; food technology (contemporary food issues), history, modern studies, people &amp; society, investigating religion &amp; beliefs, sociology and philosophy)<\/em><br \/>\n<strong>Group 3 Arts and Culture<\/strong> <em>(options include analysing media and creating media, art &amp; design and drama)<\/em><br \/>\n<strong>Group 4 Business, Industry and Employment<\/strong> <em>(options include business, creative industries, travel &amp; tourism and\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<h4>Teaching Methods &#8211; what will I do?<\/h4>\n<p>Teaching methods will include discussion, role play, written questions, group work, presentations, and independent study and research. Classwork is accessed via MS Teams and OneNote.<\/p>\n<h4>Assessment<\/h4>\n<p>There is no formal examination for this course. Assessment for the Award will consist of gathering evidence to show that the pupil is<br \/>\nable to successfully complete all the Outcomes in the Units.<br \/>\nAssessment evidence can be presented in any form appropriate to a pupil and the activity undertaken.
