Personal Development Awards aim to help learners become more independent and to develop their potential as contributing members of their societies.
Pupils will develop self-reliance, self-esteem, confidence, resilience and responsibility as well as the opportunity to continue to acquire and develop skills for learning, skills for life and skills for work.
Award Level
Personal Development Awards are offered by the SfL department at SCQF levels 3 to 5.
Entry Level – what do I need to do it?
There are no prerequisites for entry to the Personal Development courses.
Course Content – what will I learn?
A key feature is the opportunity for the Award to be tailored according to pupils’ needs and for them to be supported in setting their own targets and identifying appropriate tasks.
Units are selected from the following three themes for SCQF level 3:

♦ Self and Work
♦ Practical Abilities
For SCQF levels 4 and 5, units are selected from the following four themes:
♦ Self in Community
♦ Self and Work
♦ Practical Abilities
♦ Self Awareness
Teaching Methods – what will I do?
Teaching methods will include discussion, role play, written questions, group work, presentations, and independent study and research. Classwork is accessed via MS Teams and OneNote.
Assessment
There is no formal examination for this course. Assessment for the Award will consist of gathering evidence to show that the pupil is
able to successfully complete all the Outcomes in the Units.
Assessment evidence can be presented in any form appropriate to a pupil and the activity undertaken. Pupils may also provide evidence through audio recordings, video diaries, blogs or other electronic means.
Progression
This Award or its components may provide progression to the Personal Development Award at a higher level, or other Awards such as Steps to Work Award (SCQF levels 3 and 4), Employability Award (SCQF levels 3 and 4), Wellbeing Award (SCQF
levels 3–5), Leadership Award (SCQF levels 5 and 6) and other relevant qualifications.
