Knowledge & skills

The S1-3 curriculum has been developed from national Experiences and Outcomes. Details of the specific content taught can be found below.

Experiences

As well as teaching specific knowledge and skills, we aim to give students specific experiences. In the science curriculum, these include:

  • Participating in experiments
  • Investigating, individually and collaboratively
  • Evaluating data
  • Researching
  • Presenting Information
S1

S1 students have four periods of science per week. This is an integrated course, covering topics in biology, chemistry and physics. Classes are mixed ability.

S2-3

In S2-3,  discrete science and general science courses are available.

Discrete sciences: students can choose to study one, two or three science courses – biology, chemistry and/or physics – each taught over two periods per week.

General science: students can chose to study an integrated course, covering topics in biology, chemistry and physics.


S4-6

In S4-6, students can choose from a range of courses, including:

Nationals 

  • Biology (N5)
  • Chemistry (N5)
  • Physics (N5)
  • Science (N4)

Highers

  • Biology
  • Chemistry
  • Human Biology
  • Physics

Advanced Highers

  • Biology
  • Chemistry
