S5

Young people choosing to study Maths in S5 need to meet the required levels of prior attainment to gain a place on courses. N4 and N5 classes in S5/6 are not set.

  • N4 Mathematics: young people require a pass at N3 Applications of Mathematics (due to the small numbers of students involved, and to make this a viable option, placement is usually within an S4 class).
  • N5 Applications of Mathematics: young people require a pass in N4 Mathematics.
  • N5 Mathematics: young people require a pass in N4 Mathematics or N5 Applications of Mathematics (the recommended route to N5 Mathematics from a pass in N4 Mathematics would be to attain N5 Applications first).
  • Higher Mathematics: young people require an A or B pass in N5 Mathematics. Where there are two classes in a column Higher classes are set, otherwise they are mixed; this can change from year to year depending on student course choices.
  • Higher Applications of Mathematics: young people require an A or B pass in N5 Applications of Mathematics or N5 Mathematics.
