{"id":84,"date":"2022-06-02T13:53:26","date_gmt":"2022-06-02T12:53:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/sb\/peebleshshwb\/?page_id=84"},"modified":"2024-01-13T09:26:33","modified_gmt":"2024-01-13T09:26:33","slug":"national-5-pe","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/sb\/peebleshshwb\/national-5-pe\/","title":{"rendered":"National 5 PE"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><u><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-74\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/sb\/public\/peebleshshwb\/uploads\/sites\/3727\/2022\/06\/02133156\/PE-banner-3-300x117.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"117\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/sb\/public\/peebleshshwb\/uploads\/sites\/3727\/2022\/06\/02133156\/PE-banner-3-300x117.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/sb\/public\/peebleshshwb\/uploads\/sites\/3727\/2022\/06\/02133156\/PE-banner-3.jpeg 600w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Entry Level:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>National 5 PE is designed to allow students to study the subject of Physical Education through both team and individual activities to achieve an SQA accredited award.<\/p>\n<p>Students will need to have a very good participation\/bringing kit record in S1-3 BGE PE, be able to work individually and as part of a team and have good communication skills.<\/p>\n<p>The areas of study are similar for National 4 and 5, so all students will follow the same course and a decision about your final level will be made after completion of the first unit of study.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Course Content:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The course aims to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Develop and demonstrate understanding of the principles and factors which underpin and impact on performance.<\/li>\n<li>Explain factors which impact positively and negatively on both engagement and performance within physical activities.<\/li>\n<li>Build capacity to improve performance.<\/li>\n<li>Encourage students to examine and analyse performance to inform and influence personal improvement.<\/li>\n<li>Encourage the use of evaluation and feedback following performance.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The course comprises of <strong>two <\/strong>areas of study.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Practical performance<\/li>\n<li>Factors Impacting on Performance<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><u>Practical Performance<\/u><\/p>\n<p>Through this unit students will work towards demonstrating a comprehensive range of movements and performance skills in physical activities.\u00a0 Students will develop their performance repertoire whilst maintaining control and fluency of skills across a range of activities.<\/p>\n<p>The current options of practical activities in National 5 PE are:<\/p>\n<p>Rugby, hockey, volleyball, basketball, badminton, football, American football, gymnastics, and netball.<\/p>\n<p>This is subject to change depending on staffing, student choice and timetabling.<\/p>\n<p>To be presented at National 5 level, students must demonstrate abilities of a National 5 standard as outlined by the SQA in at least 2 of these activities.<\/p>\n<p><u>Factors Impacting on Performance<\/u><\/p>\n<p>Through this unit students will be expected to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the various factors (physical, emotional, mental, social) that impact on personal performance in physical activities.<\/li>\n<li>Develop performance through constructing a personalised training programme, focusing on specific sub-factors (i.e. physical \u2013 speed or CRE)<\/li>\n<li>Be able to test, monitor and retest performance, identifying and reviewing any improvements made.<\/li>\n<li>Evaluate the performance development process.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Course Assessment:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The National 5 course assessment is split into two components.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><em>\u201cOne-off\u201d practical performance:<\/em> This will be performed by the students and assessed <u>internally at Peebles High School<\/u> (50% of overall grade). Students will choose <strong>two<\/strong> activities from the course that they wish to be assessed on (30 marks for each activity) and graded on performance repertoire, control and fluency, decision making, tactics and rules\/etiquette.<\/li>\n<li><em>Portfolio:<\/em> This brings together work completed in a practical environment alongside the theory work covered in the factors impacting on performance unit.\u00a0 The portfolio is assessed externally by the SQA and is worth 60 marks (50% of overall grade).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>There is no final SQA exam in National 5 PE.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Homework:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Homework will be set at regular intervals throughout the course to consolidate and extend knowledge and understanding.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Progression:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Students who achieve a pass at A or B grade for National 5 PE could progress to study Higher PE.<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>Further Details.<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Full details of this course can be found at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sqa.org.uk\">http:\/\/www.sqa.org.uk<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp; Entry Level: National 5 PE is designed to allow students to study the subject of Physical Education through both team and individual activities to achieve an SQA accredited award.
