Vision and Values

VISION

We are committed wholeheartedly  to ensuring that our culture, curriculum, and learning and teaching approaches stimulate personal achievement for all.

We feel privileged to be entrusted with making our pupils better readers, writers, talkers and listeners as these are the skills that will enable them to succeed not only in school and the world of work, but all aspects of life beyond school.

Positive relationships are at the heart of all that we do. We care about our pupils, take the time to understand them as individuals and do all that we can to meet their needs. As a result, pupils’ experiences in our curriculum area make them feel supported, and able to make mistakes in the knowledge that this is an important part of the learning process and their journey to success.

We encourage our pupils to care not only about themselves and their studies but about others,  and help them to understand that their actions as individuals can affect others. We use the school behaviours – Be Polite, Be Prepared, Be Productive – to help ensure that everyone is aware of their responsibilities and able to play their part as learners in our school.

Our staff play their part not only by supporting pupils, but by supporting their colleagues. We are a strong team of experienced teachers who care about each other and making our department and our school the best that they can be. We support and challenge each other to ensure continuing improvement, and recognise that we can both learn from and influence the practice of others beyond our department and school.

As enthusiastic subject specialists, we seek to inspire our pupils to love literature and language. We plan learning which is designed to broaden our pupils’ horizons, spark curiosity, and help them to attain the qualifications and develop the skills they need to  succeed in life both today and in their bright futures.

VALUES

Our department lives by our school values. We model wisdom, compassion, integrity and justice in all that we do, and aim to develop our pupils’ understanding of these values, encouraging them to put these values in action.

Our commitment to fostering our school values is shown in many aspects of our practice; here are some examples:

🦉Wisdom

🐘Compassion

We use the context of literature to explore the experiences of others.

 🦌Integrity

🦅Justice
