On Monday we made plasticine b<strong>oa<\/strong>ts and then tested to see whether they would fl<strong>oa<\/strong>t. Only three boats floated and we looked at what they had in common \u2013 thin walls, sides to hold air in and water out, no holes and a large surface area or a big bottom! We then tried again on Tuesday when many more boats floated.<\/p>\n<p>Also for the &#8216;oa&#8217; sound we\u2019re writing a three part story about a g<strong>oa<\/strong>t with a new c<strong>oa<\/strong>t. We&#8217;re making up the story together. First the goat is walking through the forest in his new coat. Then he meets a pheasant with a twisted ankle! We\u2019ll finish the final instalment next week. Today we made plasticine coats for goats, using tools to help us.<\/p>\n<p>In our writing this week we\u2019re also looking again at the \u2018th\u2019 sound and making sure we put full stops in the correct places. We\u2019re also continuing our rhyming words.<\/p>\n<p>For the next part of our RSPB Wild Challenge we\u2019ve started planting and composting. We\u2019ve been saving our fruit peels and collecting the vegetable peels for the kitchen to feed to the worms in our compost bins. For our planting, first we are <strong>germinating<\/strong> seeds in the classroom in our makeshift green houses. We\u2019re hoping the shoots will start sprouting soon. Next week we will start planting seeds in our school garden.<\/p>\n<p>In numeracy this block we\u2019ve moved on to money \u2013 looking at the different coins and adding them up. We\u2019ve set up a book shop in the classroom to practise addition and subtraction through paying for things and getting the correct change.<\/p>\n<p>Some of the highlights from the P2s this week have been:<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u2018Making the goat\u2019s coat.\u2019<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u2018Testing the boats and putting the seeds in the greenhouses.\u2019<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u2019Feeding the worms.\u2019<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u2018All the stories.\u2019<\/span><\/p>\n\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>We\u2019ve had a lovely sunny week back. \u00a0We\u2019ve been revising the \u2018oa\u2019 sound this week.
