Murder Mystery and Review of the Week

We had a very interesting start to Thursday morning this week. When we arrived at school we were shocked to see a scary message left in blood on our classroom windows. We also had a note to say we were going to be investigating a crime that had happened in our classrooms.

We used our inference reading skills to solve a murder and create a crime report to present to the rest of the class. We were very relieved to find out it had all been pretend and just a way for us to practise what we have been learning about in reading. Quite a few of us managed to correctly identify the victim, suspect, motive and weapon!

This week we also –

  • Learnt about the speed, distance, time formula
  • Listened to a piece of spooky music and created a response text about it
  • Had another session with Jen and Jen from Live n Learn
  • Thought about some of the physical and emotional changes during puberty
  • Explored Anthony Browne’s ‘Voices in the Park’ book
  • Learnt about reproduction in flowering and non-flowering plants
  • Set up an experiment to observe germination
  • Continued to learn about why we use algebra in maths and in real life
  1. What did you enjoy this week?

  2. Who was in your back up team this week?

  3. What tools from your Skipper toolkit did you use this week?

P7 Review of the Week 23.4.21

It’s great to be back after the holidays! P7 have been enjoying being able to eat their packed lunched outside on the balcony or near the MUGA.

We’ve been straight back into learning with lots to keep us busy and engaged.  Here are a few of the things we’ve been up to this week:

  • Learning about Grit and Resilience in our Online session with Jen and Ian from Live’n’Learn
  • Identifying the features of a ‘Response’ Text
  • Exploring a visual text and looking for themes/hidden messages
  • An introduction to algebra and algebraic expressions and developing our ‘Maths Mindset’
  • Converting and Understanding 12 and 24 hour times
  • Learning correct terminology for parts of the body
  • Researching life cycles of various plants and animals

Which of Skipper’s Tools have you used this week?

Here is a quick reminder:

  • Worked in groups to design and plan a zoo, thinking about area and perimeter

Take a Moment Thistles

This week P7 took some time to relax and focus on sketching skills.

Skipper tells us that sometimes we need to take a moment to help us cope with our emotions. Drawing and sketching is a great way to relax and calm ourselves down.

P7 focused on their sketching skills by following Mrs Little’s wonderful Sketches School tutorial to create these beautiful thistle pictures on their iPads.

Reflections on 2020

2020 has been a year like no other. We have all had experiences that have challenged us but also had positive opportunities that would not have occurred otherwise. Think about these questions and reflect on the year of 2020.

  1. What challenged you this year – be specific!

  2. What positives came out of this year for you?

  3. What did you learn from this year?

  4. What is your hope for 2021?
