This week we did an experiment with yeast. Here is the information if you want to do the experiment at home.<\/p>\n<div>\n<div>\n<div>\n<div class=\"lesson-content__resources\">\n<h3>Resources:<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<div class=\"embeded-directive\">Small bottle (with lid)<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div class=\"embeded-directive\">10g fresh or dried yeast<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div class=\"embeded-directive\">30ml warm water<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div class=\"embeded-directive\">10g sugar<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div class=\"embeded-directive\">Thermometer<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div class=\"embeded-directive\">Balloon<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<h3>Activity:<\/h3>\n<div class=\"embeded-directive\">\n<p>Yeast is a living organism that needs food (carbohydrate) and oxygen to respire. This can be demonstrated using simple materials.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Warm the water to around 38\u00b0C (check with a thermometer).<\/li>\n<li>Pour the water into the bottle.<\/li>\n<li>Add the yeast and sugar.<\/li>\n<li>Secure the lid and shake the bottle to mix the contents.<\/li>\n<li>Remove the lid and stretch a balloon over the neck of the bottle.<\/li>\n<li>Put this in a warm place.<\/li>\n<li>Observe the bottle over the next hour.
