Student Drama are pleased to announce that they will be performing Matilda the musical (junior) in June of 2025!
Friday the 13th is unlucky for some, but for Student Drama at Kelso High School it was audition day. The production team (Miss Riley, Allister Morris (S5) and Niamh Bennett (S5) ) saw upwards of 15 young people audition for the show’s speaking roles.
Well done to everyone who made the cast and especially well done to Evie Anderson-Adams in S1 who landed the title role of Matilda!
Here are some thoughts from S3 Drama pupils about how they felt preparing for their audition.
When I entered the audition room with Skylar I felt a tad confident and very nervous. The acting went really well we did end up having a pause but it wasn’t bad, my singing was not as good as usual due to my nerves but it must have went well. After my audition I felt relieved that it was over but also nervous because I thought I messed up the ending of the song, but on Monday 14th of September the cast sheet went out and I ended up getting Miss Honey.

To prepare for the audition I rehearsed a lot during drama periods with Lena and Emily and lots of singing at home. While waiting for my audition I was pretty confident and kept practicing but as soon as my name was called I got really really nervous, […] After the audition I thought it went horribly and was quite annoyed but when the cast list came out that Monday I was so shocked that I ended up getting the part.

Student Drama rehearses every Friday from 1.30 to 3.30pm in the Drama room behind the assembly hall. If you are interested in coming (or know someone who is) speak to Miss Riley for more info.
Keep your eyes peeled for next month’s post where we’ll meet the rest of the cast!
