Inspire AI
Artificial Intelligence (AI) is now part of everyday learning and teaching. Inspire AI provides clear guidance to support safe, purposeful and responsible use of AI across schools in Scottish Borders Council.
The use of AI in SBC schools should be:
- Purposeful – Use AI where it adds genuine value to learning, teaching or workload, rather than using it by default.
- Responsible – Protect personal data, safeguard wellbeing and maintain high standards of academic integrity in all AI use.
- Inclusive – Use AI to reduce barriers, strengthen accessibility and support equitable outcomes for every learner.
- Ethical – Ensure all AI use upholds fairness, authenticity and the integrity of national qualifications delivered through Qualifications Scotland.
- Sustainable – Promote balanced, thoughtful use that protects deep thinking, professional judgement and long-term digital wellbeing.
Inspire AI is centred around three core areas:
AI for Creativity
Enhancing imagination, digital expression and interdisciplinary learning.
AI for Productivity
Reducing workload appropriately while maintaining professional standards.
AI for Supporting All Learners
Improving accessibility, differentiation and inclusive practice.
You will also find guidance on responsible use, age and stage expectations, revision support and national qualification alignment.
AI is a powerful tool in education but it is not a replacement for professional judgement. Our focus remains high-quality learning and positive outcomes for children and young people in the Scottish Borders.
