S4-S6 Prompt Library
Using AI to Support Your Learning
In senior phase, AI can support independent study, revision planning and deeper understanding. You are expected to use it responsibly, critically and within qualification guidelines.
AI can act as a revision partner or study coach, but it must not complete assessed work for you or generate coursework for submission.
Your work must always demonstrate your own knowledge and understanding.

Writing a Prompt
When using AI:
- Be precise about the qualification level (National 5, Higher, Advanced Higher)
- Specify the command word (describe, explain, analyse, evaluate)
- Set boundaries (word count, no full model answer, ask questions instead)
- Ask for guidance, not just the solution
- Check all content against class notes and official materials
AI should support you to think more clearly, question your understanding and refine your knowledge so that you can perform at your best. It must never be used to bypass the thinking process. Be aware that Qualifications Scotland takes a clear and firm position on plagiarism and inappropriate use of AI in assessment.

Creating Your Own Revision Resources
Use AI to help you build materials from your own notes and school resources.
Turn My Notes into Questions:
Using the following class notes on DNA replication [paste notes], create 10 exam-style questions at Higher level that test understanding and application. Do not provide full answers.
Flashcard Generator:
Based on these revision notes for National 5 chemistry [paste notes], generate short flashcard-style questions with concise answers for retrieval practice.
Topic Summary Builder:

Using AI as a Tutor
AI can help explain, question and guide — but it should not replace independent problem-solving.
Explain and Question Me:
Explain equilibrium in chemistry at Higher level in under 150 words, then ask me three questions to test my understanding.
Socratic Method:
I am struggling with differentiation in Higher Maths. Ask me step-by-step questions to guide me through understanding it rather than giving me full solutions.

Getting Help with Past Paper Questions

Marking Scheme Guidance:
Based on this National 5 maths question [paste question], explain what the marking scheme is likely to reward without solving the question fully.
Step-by-Step Hinting:
I am stuck on this Advanced Higher physics calculation: [paste question]. Give me the first step only. Wait for my response before giving further hints.

Developing Exam Technique

Explain the difference between “describe”, “explain” and “evaluate” in Higher exam questions and provide one short example of each.
Time Management Plan:
Create a suggested time allocation strategy for a National 5 maths exam paper based on typical question distribution.
Self-Assessment Prompt:

Expectations for Senior Phase AI Use
AI must never be used to generate coursework for submission or complete assessed tasks under exam conditions. You must follow all guidance issued by Qualifications Scotland and your school regarding acceptable and unacceptable use of AI.
You must:
- Protect personal data
- Check all information for accuracy
- Avoid presenting AI-generated content as your own work
- Use AI to support understanding, not replace it
AI can act as a study partner — but your qualifications depend on your own independent demonstration of knowledge.
