for children.\u00a0 Therefore, there is a calm and nurturing atmosphere within the setting.<\/li>\n<li>All practitioners KNOW that all behaviour is communication.\u00a0\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Practitioners address the &#8216;behaviour&#8217;, not label the child.\u00a0 By drawing upon their knowledge of the child, the practitioner can make sense of the behaviour and support them individually.\u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/sb\/earlylevelportal\/observations\/\" rel=\"noopener\">Observation<\/a> is vital when interpreting behaviour.<\/li>\n<li>Agreed approaches such as Positive Interaction Scripts and <a href=\"https:\/\/zonesofregulation.com\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Zones of Regulation<\/a> are meaningful to the children and followed consistently by all practitioners.<\/li>\n<li>Practitioners precisely model how communication can express feelings and emotions and support children and young people to do the same (<a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/sb\/earlylevelportal\/principle-4-language-is-a-vital-means-of-communication\/\" rel=\"noopener\">Nurture Principle 4<\/a>).<\/li>\n<li>All practitioners ensure that they interact with the children at their level.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Cosy nooks and quiet areas are sensitively planned for in the environment.\u00a0 Children can be observed using these areas for reflection, quiet time and 1:1 interactions.\u00a0 In addition, developmentally appropriate resources are readily available for children to help identify and regulate emotions.<\/li>\n<li>There is a strong ethos of confidentiality and respect within the setting; children and behaviours are never discussed within earshot of other children or adults.<\/li>\n<li>Practitioners understand that toddlers cannot regulate their emotions effectively and use body language and facial expressions when communicating with them.<\/li>\n<li>Support interventions are offered to <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/sb\/earlylevelportal\/family-partnerships\/\" rel=\"noopener\">families<\/a> to help understand the child&#8217;s behaviour and support them at home.<\/li>\n<li>Effective communication between home and settings are in place ensuring practitioners are aware of changes in children&#8217;s lives that may be impacting their behaviour.<\/li>\n<li>All practitioners develop their knowledge and understanding of how best to support children with additional needs.<\/li>\n<li>Practitioners must ensure that, from the outset, family and <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/sb\/earlylevelportal\/professional-partnerships\/\" rel=\"noopener\">partner agency<\/a> links are valued, visible, strong and purposeful.<\/li>\n<li>Practitioners use praise and positive reinforcement at all times.<\/li>\n<li>All achievements are celebrated \u2013 no matter how small!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>\u00a0<\/h3>\n<h3>Ways we can do this:<\/h3>\n<p>All practitioners have engaged with <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/sb\/earlylevelportal\/nurture\/\" rel=\"noopener\">nurture<\/a> training and put the nurture principles into action during their everyday interactions with the children.<\/p>\n<p>The development of positive <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/sb\/earlylevelportal\/attachment\/\" rel=\"noopener\">attachments<\/a> from day one will support the child to feel safe and secure within the setting.\u00a0 Parents and children know which practitioners are in the setting each day.\u00a0 Where possible, children and families are informed of practitioner changes in advance.<\/p>\n<p>All practitioners create an emotional environment and atmosphere which allows children to feel safe and secure.\u00a0 All practitioners know their body position, language, facial expressions, and tone of voice when interacting with the children.<\/p>\n<p>All practitioners understand their role as a safe base providing emotional calm and security for children.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/section>\n<section id=\"builder-section-text_35\" class=\"builder-section-prev-text builder-section builder-section-text builder-section-next-text builder-text-columns-2 layout-6\" style=\"background-size: cover;
