Consider the pace of change in our world and how we need to ensure our children are equipped with the right skills for their future.\u00a0 The foundations are built from the child&#8217;s earliest years.\u00a0 Creativity is crucial within science, technology, engineering and mathematical learning (STEM).\u00a0 It is also essential to language and literacy development.&#8221;<\/cite><\/p>\n<p>(<a href=\"https:\/\/education.gov.scot\/media\/3bjpr3wa\/realisingtheambition.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Realising the Ambition<\/a>, Education Scotland, 2020, p. 24)<\/p>\n<p>Creative Scotland describes creativity as:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><cite>&#8220;About seeing things differently<\/cite><\/li>\n<li><cite>About finding new approaches to the challenges we face<\/cite><\/li>\n<li><cite>Creativity can shape our future for the better.&#8221;<\/cite><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>\u00a0<\/h3>\n<h3>Key messages:<\/h3>\n<p>The children have:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li>Access to a variety of interesting, open-ended resources<\/li>\n<li>The freedom to explore materials and ideas<\/li>\n<li>The chance to design, experiment and shape the tasks they undertake<\/li>\n<li>Access to high quality, stimulating <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/sb\/earlylevelportal\/spaces-indoor\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">indoor<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/sb\/earlylevelportal\/spaces-outdoor-learning\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">outdoor<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/sb\/earlylevelportal\/spaces\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">learning environments<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The practitioners encourage:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/sb\/earlylevelportal\/questioning\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Questioning<\/a>, curiosity and exploration<\/li>\n<li>Expression of thoughts, feelings and ideas<\/li>\n<li>A fun, playful approach to learning<\/li>\n<li>Problem-solving skills and developing children&#8217;s ability to redesign, reformat and review their creations<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>\u00a0<\/h3>\n<h3>Ways we can do this:<\/h3>\n<p>The practitioners must:<\/p>\n<p>Develop their own knowledge and understanding of creative thinking and its importance.<\/p>\n<p>Provide rich, exciting spaces where children are free to explore and experiment with their thoughts, ideas and materials.<\/p>\n<p>Give the children opportunities to be responsible, take the lead and develop autonomy.<\/p>\n<p>Through <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/sb\/earlylevelportal\/sensitive-interactions\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">sensitive interactions<\/a>, practitioners support children to explore the world around them, be curious, and question.<\/p>\n<p>Listen, encourage and support children with their thoughts, feelings and ideas.<\/p>\n<p>In all aspects of the experiences and opportunities offered, encourage the children to try out ideas and embrace &#8216;mistakes&#8217;
