background-repeat: no-repeat;background-position: center center;\">\n<div class=\"builder-section-content\">\n<div class=\"builder-text-row\">\n<div class=\"builder-text-column builder-text-column-1\" id=\"builder-section-text_64-column-1\">\n<div class=\"builder-text-content\">\n<h5>Key messages:<\/h5>\n<p>In your setting, you must know:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Recorded information is up to date, includes all the necessary information and reflects children&#8217;s current needs.<\/li>\n<li>Consent is reviewed at least every three months or at the start of a new term.<\/li>\n<li>The information on forms and containers reflects the dispensing label.<\/li>\n<li>What medication is on the premises (including adult&#8217;s medication), and where it is stored.<\/li>\n<li>Medication is in date.<\/li>\n<li>Medication is stored correctly with the permission form.<\/li>\n<li>Lifesaving medication is easily accessible, including when on outings.<\/li>\n<li>Practitioners are knowledgeable about children&#8217;s medicine, medical conditions and allergies.\u00a0 This may include triggers, how children will present, what action to take, and what action to take if the initial action is ineffective.<\/li>\n<li>The procedure if the wrong dose is given or medication is given to the wrong child.<\/li>\n<li>The procedure if the child refuses or spits out the medication.<\/li>\n<li>Any medication administered has been administered by the parent or health professional <strong>before<\/strong> being given to the setting.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>(<a href=\"https:\/\/glowscotland-my.sharepoint.com\/:b:\/g\/personal\/earlylevelportal_glowmail_org_uk\/EURc2CDsBgJLi-fLH-2F88gByTIcW2WMhPodDqUi33hgbw?e=dHG7Xd\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Management of Medication in Daycare and Childminding<\/a>, Care Inspectorate, 2024)<\/p>\n<h3>\u00a0<\/h3>\n<h3>Ways we can do this:<\/h3>\n<p>Complete and review regularly (in line with your Quality Assurance Calendar) <a href=\"https:\/\/glowscotland-my.sharepoint.com\/:w:\/g\/personal\/earlylevelportal_glowmail_org_uk\/EZZYD5yPKzdAhmknFSxqyW4BNSkP97CGBZ5DpDLKTD8biw?e=ObOIOx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">SBC Medication Audit 2025<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Use the Care Inspectorate <a href=\"https:\/\/glowscotland-my.sharepoint.com\/:b:\/g\/personal\/earlylevelportal_glowmail_org_uk\/EURc2CDsBgJLi-fLH-2F88gByTIcW2WMhPodDqUi33hgbw?e=dHG7Xd\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">&#8220;Management of medication in daycare of children and childminding services&#8221;<\/a> document.<\/p>\n<p>Use &#8216;SBC Multi-agency policy for the <a href=\"https:\/\/glowscotland-my.sharepoint.com\/:b:\/g\/personal\/earlylevelportal_glowmail_org_uk\/ERAeEG0W5GRAhecRGJPDJoAButGctEaOmby-_4L8gue7nQ?e=Y0dZdV\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">administration of medication and health care procedures<\/a>&#8216;.<\/p>\n<p>Ensure the setting&#8217;s medication proforma has all the information required.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ensure that all medication is stored correctly:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li>Emergency medicines, such as\u00a0<strong>inhalers and adrenaline medication<\/strong>, <strong>must be readily available<\/strong> and accessible to practitioners- they\u00a0must not be stored in a locked cupboard.<\/li>\n<li>Non emergency medicines must be stored in a\u00a0<strong>locked cupboard or locked container,<\/strong>\u00a0which is out of children\u2019s reach in an area below 25\u00b0C.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Ensure all practitioners, including supply, have the setting&#8217;s medication guidance.<\/p>\n<p>Everyone in the setting has a good knowledge of the guidance around storage and administration of medication.<\/p>\n<p>Appoint a practitioner to oversee medication, including sending expiry slips to parents, overseeing the on-site medication list, and ensuring all medications are correctly documented.<\/p>\n<p>Add dates of reviews and auditing to Quality Assurance Calendar.<\/p>\n<p><strong>FLOWCHARTS<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>In consultation with a relevant health official where appropriate (depending on nature of condition) and a parent\/carer, have a symptom and action flowchart in place that can be easily accessed to support all staff. SBC editable <strong>templates<\/strong> can be used as a<strong> STARTING POINT<\/strong> but <strong>MUST<\/strong> be amended with the relevant health official (where appropriate) and with parent guidance and agreement.
