The analysis of information helps to inform planning to ensure the continued and appropriate progress of all learners.&#8221;<\/cite><\/p>\n<p>(<a href=\"https:\/\/glowscotland-my.sharepoint.com\/:b:\/g\/personal\/earlylevelportal_glowmail_org_uk\/EdVvH4vppd1FqX_7XTlYZsIBdTPL4gGbOvltA0KuSI-LYQ?e=aFP0hc\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Monitoring, Tracking and Reporting of Pupil Progress and Achievement<\/a>, Highland Council, 2013,\u00a0 p. 1)<\/p>\n<h3>Key messages:<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Tracking gives a picture of where a child is in their development and learning at any one time.\u00a0 It not only provides an opportunity to see what the child can do and has yet to do, but also tells us about the pace of the child\u2019s progress and provides useful information which can inform planning of experiences, interactions, <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/sb\/earlylevelportal\/spaces\/\" rel=\"noopener\">spaces<\/a> and targeted interventions.<\/li>\n<li>Practitioners gather information to get to know the child and build an holistic picture of them as individuals.\u00a0 This begins prior to a child\u2019s arrival in the setting and continues to be added to during their first few weeks in the setting (see <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/sb\/earlylevelportal\/personal-plans\/\" rel=\"noopener\">Personal Plan<\/a> for more information).\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Practitioners use this information, data, to assess the children\u2019s interests, strengths, developmental stages and needs.<\/li>\n<li>Ensure that processes for tracking and monitoring are manageable and effectively inform staff about children\u2019s progress and how they can extend learning in a developmentally appropriate way.<\/li>\n<li><cite>&#8220;It is important that any tracking system takes into account the holistic view of a pupil.\u00a0 Information such absences, incidents in the school (or other setting), (both positive and less so).\u00a0 Individual Education Plans and Child&#8217;s Plans, levels of concern and support should be integral to any effective tracking system.&#8221;<\/cite><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>(<a href=\"https:\/\/glowscotland-my.sharepoint.com\/:b:\/g\/personal\/earlylevelportal_glowmail_org_uk\/EdVvH4vppd1FqX_7XTlYZsIBdTPL4gGbOvltA0KuSI-LYQ?e=aFP0hc\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Monitoring, Tracking and Reporting of Pupil Progress and Achievement<\/a>, Highland Council, 2013,\u00a0 p. 2)<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Settings ensure that parents and <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/sb\/earlylevelportal\/family-partnerships\/\" rel=\"noopener\">families<\/a> receive regular opportunities to discuss their child\u2019s learning and progress.\u00a0 They have a clear understanding of\u00a0 their role in supporting learning at home.<\/li>\n<li>Practitioners use the information from tracking and monitoring to plan interventions to improve outcomes for children.<\/li>\n<li>Practitioners can talk confidently about children\u2019s progress.<\/li>\n<li>Practitioners work across the Early Level to monitor and evaluate children\u2019s progress, and to build confidence in their professional judgements.<\/li>\n<li>Practitioners systematically discuss children\u2019s progress as a team, and senior practitioners maintain an overview of attainment and take appropriate action to support and challenge staff.<\/li>\n<li>Practitioners record children\u2019s progress linked to the <a href=\"https:\/\/glowscotland-my.sharepoint.com\/:b:\/g\/personal\/earlylevelportal_glowmail_org_uk\/IQDazyJK5KTaS4bG88g8Yk2DAT0U99u3kkvIuF98MJ8Hz2I?e=4YSyDJ\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Benchmarks of Curriculum for Excellence.<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Practitioners take appropriate action based on tracking information, to ensure all learners progress as expected with their next steps in learning.<\/li>\n<li>Tracking and monitoring data is shared effectively in order to ensure optimum progression for all children at points of <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/sb\/earlylevelportal\/transitions\/\" rel=\"noopener\">transition<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>\u00a0<\/h3>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div class=\"builder-text-column builder-text-column-2\" id=\"builder-section-text_11-column-2\">\n<div class=\"builder-text-content\">\n<h4>\u00a0<\/h4>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: right;\">\u00a0<\/h4>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: right;\">\u00a0<\/h4>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Use OneDrive app to store documents<\/strong><\/p>\n<div class=\"jetpack-video-wrapper\">\n<div class=\"ttfmake-embed-wrapper aligncenter\" style=\"max-width: 960px;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"OneDrive Within Glow - Creating New Content Within Your OneDrive\" width=\"960\" height=\"720\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/ilJzcJiMfmA?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; background-repeat: no-repeat;background-position: center center;\">\n<div class=\"builder-section-content\">\n<div class=\"builder-text-row\">\n<div class=\"builder-text-column builder-text-column-1\" id=\"builder-section-text_34-column-1\">\n<div class=\"builder-text-content\">\n<h3>Ways we can do this:<\/h3>\n<p>Careful observation of the child within daily routines and during play inside and<a href=\"https:\/\/glowscotland-my.sharepoint.com\/:b:\/g\/personal\/earlylevelportal_glowmail_org_uk\/ETxOk33VoNxOoYKM_hLUbIgBNMBdS7bgsYz3fennZ9E1Iw?e=uguAzx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-10363 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/sb\/earlylevelportal\/uploads\/sites\/3720\/2022\/05\/20153506\/Developmental-Overviews-and-Trackers-visual-686x1024.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"450\" height=\"672\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/sb\/public\/earlylevelportal\/uploads\/sites\/3720\/2022\/05\/20153506\/Developmental-Overviews-and-Trackers-visual-686x1024.png 686w, https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/sb\/public\/earlylevelportal\/uploads\/sites\/3720\/2022\/05\/20153506\/Developmental-Overviews-and-Trackers-visual-201x300.png 201w, https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/sb\/public\/earlylevelportal\/uploads\/sites\/3720\/2022\/05\/20153506\/Developmental-Overviews-and-Trackers-visual.png 767w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 450px) 100vw, 450px\" \/><\/a> outdoors, supported by\u00a0sensitive interactions allows practitioners to tune into the child\u2019s interests.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/sb\/earlylevelportal\/play\/\" rel=\"noopener\">Playing<\/a> alongside the child can provide further information about the child\u2019s knowledge base and skill levels, allowing the adult to appropriate challenge in the moment and inform future planning.<\/p>\n<p>Gathering information from families through conversations will develop the accuracy of a child\u2019s personal plan and regular timetabled review will ensure the document is relevant and meaningful to the child.<\/p>\n<p>Time must also be given to evaluate strategies being implemented to support children for their effectiveness and relevance.\u00a0 If something is not having an impact, then consider as a team what could be put in place instead.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Settings can make use of tracking facilities on e-journals, using them effectively to communicate to parents and to assess progress in learning.<\/p>\n<p>A consistent use of the language of learning (including <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/sb\/earlylevelportal\/learning-dispositions-learning-powers\/\" rel=\"noopener\">learning dispositions<\/a>) with children so they can identify what they are learning and how their learning has developed over time.<\/p>\n<p>Staff regularly discuss children\u2019s interests and progress in learning as part of professional dialogue.\u00a0 This knowledge is then implemented in changes to the environment to extend and challenge learning or through intentional promotion planning for specific learning experiences.<\/p>\n<p><strong>When gathering evidence of learning progression, practitioners should consider<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<p>Ensuring focus of observations includes documenting the learning that took place and what the adult did to support and extend the learning.<\/p>\n<p>Adding a variety of evidence of learning into <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/sb\/earlylevelportal\/learning-journeys\/\" rel=\"noopener\">learning journeys<\/a> or journals, e.g. written observations, film clips, photos, examples of work with notations, WOW moments with comments, and examples of achievements from home.\u00a0 Giving a full picture of the child\u2019s learning experiences and their progression in learning.<\/p>\n<p>Using a floor book or learning wall to capture progression of group learning activities.\u00a0 Examples of this may include photographs, drawings and child\u2019s voice, with adults making the learning visible for the children during daily routines.<\/p>\n<p><strong>When using tracking documents, practitioners should consider<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<p>Completing trackers &amp;
