We are highly skilled in observing and documenting children\u2019s significant learning and achievements. Together this robust assessment information provides reliable evidence about children. We use this to form a holistic picture of the child and make accurate judgements about children\u2019s progress and future learning.<\/p>\n<p>Our approach to documenting learning empowers children to talk about their achievements and consider what they might learn next.<\/p>\n<p>Our staff use assessment information with children and their parents\/carers to plan appropriate next steps to help children continue to make progress and deepen their learning. This tells us what the child needs for us to provide in their learning environment.<\/p>\n<p><strong>p66<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The most effective observations and subsequent documentation of young children\u2019s learning and development have clear meaning and purpose.<\/p>\n<p>Focus on capturing how well or how much learning is going on rather than simply commenting on the activity. For example, it is good to know that the children are enjoying playing with the mud kitchen, but it is much more useful to notice the extent to which the child is curiously exploring how textures change when materials are mixed together, or is interested in transporting particular materials from one part of the garden to another. Learning focussed observations help us to understand the child\u2019s interests and stage of development.
