It is essential for the well-being of all and is an international priority.\u201d<\/cite><br \/><em>(UNESCO, 2013)<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Learning for Sustainability (LfS) connects people and the planet. It encourages children, practitioners, and communities to explore local and global issues and take action for a fairer, more sustainable future.<\/p>\n<p>In Scotland, LfS is an <strong>entitlement for all learners<\/strong> and a <strong>whole-setting approach<\/strong> which weaves together <em>global citizenship, sustainable development education,<\/em> and <em>outdoor learning<\/em> to create meaningful, coherent learning experiences.<\/p>\n<p><cite>\u201cThe term <em>Learning for Sustainability<\/em>, coined in Scotland, is now gaining traction internationally as a cross-curricular approach which enables learners, educators and their wider community to build a socially-just, sustainable and equitable society.\u201d<\/cite><br \/><em>(Target 2030 \u2013 Scotland\u2019s Learning for Sustainability Action Plan 2023-2030)<\/em><\/p>\n<p>LfS connects people and the planet. Children influence and affect change. p22<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Creativity and learning for sustainability are embedded in our curriculum design\u2019 P33 Curriculum, curriculum rationale and design<\/p>\n<h3>Ways we can do this:<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Provide daily opportunities for <strong>outdoor play and exploration<\/strong>, using local spaces to build connection with nature.<\/li>\n<li>Encourage <strong>reuse, reduce, recycle<\/strong> habits in playroom routines and resourcing.<\/li>\n<li>Support <strong>child-led inquiries<\/strong> into real-world issues (e.g. \u201cWhere does our food come from?\u201d or \u201cHow can we help the birds in winter?\u201d).<\/li>\n<li>Embed <strong>global citizenship and fairness<\/strong> through stories, songs, and discussions.<\/li>\n<li>Involve families and community partners in sustainable projects.<\/li>\n<li>Reflect together on <em>how we care for people, places, and our planet<\/em>.<\/li>\n<li>Growing and caring for plants in the nursery garden.<\/li>\n<li>Setting up a recycling or compost station.<\/li>\n<li>Planning a kindness or community action project.<\/li>\n<li>Exploring seasonal changes through outdoor learning.<\/li>\n<li>Using storybooks and play to explore fairness, friendship, and care for our world.<\/li>\n<\/ul><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/section>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Learning for Sustainability Resources \uf0ad\u00a0 What is it? \u201cLearning for Sustainability is learning to live within the environmental limits of our planet and to build a just, equitable and peaceful society.
