On Monday morning we were given a challenge – build the fastest K-Nex Car! We spent the morning building cars in groups and then we had to find out the fastest. We had to think about how to work out the speed. We eventually worked out that we needed to know the distance something has travelled and how long it took to go that distance. We could then work out the speed. Speed = distance/time.

We are trying to put our learning about creating 3-D shape into practice by making 3-D star shapes for the Christmas Bazaar. We are going to fill them with nice things!!

MTH 2-16b

In class we have been learning about 2-D shapes and we have been trying to name and draw them. We had to draw a 3-sided shape first, then a 4-sided, 5-sided etc. Oliver managed to draw a 31-sided shape! Tymen found out that a 672 sided polygon is called hexahectaheptacontakaidigon!

MTH 2-16a

Every Monday morning we do a Team Games Tournament. We do sums where we try and get points for our table, like times-tables, adding two digit numbers and subtracting two digit numbers. We work in a different group and take turns to answer questions. Each question we get right is one point. Each week we try and get a better score for our home table.

In maths today we played a game of ‘Guess my Number’. We had a large number (up to hundreds of billions) stuck on our back and we had to guess the number by asking other people questions that they could answer only yes or no to. E.g. is the hundreds of millions digit more or less than five? Is the tens of thousands number odd or even etc. We had a lot of fun and in the end everyone managed to work out their complete number.
