We were looking at HOTS questions and what makes a good answer. We all had to write an answer to a HOTS question which we then discussed as a group. We picked out the best answer and gave our reasons why these answers were good.

Naming 2-D shapes
In class we have been learning about 2-D shapes and we have been trying to name and draw them. We had to draw a 3-sided shape first, then a 4-sided, 5-sided etc. Oliver managed to draw a 31-sided shape! Tymen found out that a 672 sided polygon is called hexahectaheptacontakaidigon!
Printing
We have been learning about line and form with our art teacher, Mrs Clifford. We have looked closely at how to draw faces and we applied our knowledge to create a print of a portrait that we did. We were very pleased with the results!
snowball effect
We have been creating questions using the snowball effect. We had to write a word on a sheet of paper and loosly scrumple it up , we then threw the crumpled ball across the hall.
You would then unscrumple the piece of paper and think of a question to go with the word.
Team Games Tournament
Every Monday morning we do a Team Games Tournament. We do sums where we try and get points for our table, like times-tables, adding two digit numbers and subtracting two digit numbers. We work in a different group and take turns to answer questions. Each question we get right is one point. Each week we try and get a better score for our home table.
Heads Labels
We had to choose a noun, verb, adjective, adverb or pronoun and stick it on the head of our partner. By using good questions, our partner had to guess what was written on our head. It was good fun – and we learned a bit about different types of words too.
Square It Up!
We had this problem to do in class today –
“You need six drinking straws the same length. Cut two of them in half. You now have eight straws, four long and four short. Arrange the straws to make 3 squares all the same size”
We worked in pairs to try and solve the problem – it wasn’t easy but most people managed to find a solution.
You could try this problem at home – can you see if you can solve it by having no straws sticking out the side this time?
Tiny Dancer
We watched this film in class.
We thought about the colour of the film, setting and sound. We thought about the character. Why was he performing where he was? What was stopping him performing in front of an audience? We discussed what the story might be and the message behind the film. What is your ambition? What might stop you fulfilling your ambition?
Concept Cartoons
During maths today we had to discuss cartoons about maths. It really made us think hard about what our understanding was. It was also quite fun. What do you think?
Learning Log Mindmaps
We have been including mindmaps in our learning logs, showing everything that we have learned during the week. We looked at some examples from Tony Buzan and then tried to create mind maps that were similiar. They should help us to think about and reflect on how much we have learned.
