Eco update 14.3.13
The Eco Committee got together (at last) this week and arranged the following:
– All classes to re-commit to weekly litter picks. Litter team to oversee this and keep classes in check.
– Compost bins now in use in canteen. Bio-diversity team to talk to Mrs Thompson about these.
-Energy team to recommence class check-ups.
– Trash Pack competition shared with all pupils (closing date Thursday 27th March). Trashie for everyone + a sticker to make everyone think about Waste Week. Let’s make less mess!
Going for Green Flag (again!)
Eyemouth Primary School received it’s first green flag in 2009 and a second in 2011.
Well, it’s that time again and in May 2013, we will be applying for our third green flag.
Our pupils and staff work hard to ensure we are an eco-school. But to be a green flag school, it’s more than just ‘working hard’. We’ve got t prove it too!
To earn our next green flag we need to make sure we can tick off everything on the ‘Green Flag Award‘ list. Why not click on the link to see for yourselves what we need to show?
We’ll keep you up-to-date with how we’re getting on.
Inaugural Active School Travel Champion Awards
Congratulations! Eyemouth Primary has won the Eyemouth area Active School Travel Award.
The awards are to be presented to the schools with the highest percentage of pupils actively travelling to school that year. At Primary level each high school cluster area will have their own shield to compete for; while at secondary level the 9 High Schools will compete for the Secondary School Active Travel Champion Award.
The schools have already gathered the information required as part of the National School Travel Hands Up Survey. This takes place annually in September when every nursery, primary and secondary school pupil is surveyed on their travel mode to school and the results are collated for every authority in Scotland by Sustrans on behalf of the Scottish Government.
We would like to invite you (or a teacher/parent representative) and two Junior Road Safety Officers to attend the Inaugural Active School Travel Awards to allow us to present your award in person on Thursday 7 March.
Let’s re-adopt a beach
The Biodiveristy team met with Georgia Connelly today to talk about re-adopting Eyemouth beach. According to a report, our beach is not clean enough.
Georgia, who works for St Abbs and Eyemouth Volunteer Marine Reserve, was enthuastic about working together.
The team agreed that we as a school should re-commit to cleaning our beach four times a year. The exact details of this will be sorted out soon.
