Families of Primary Schools

To enhance collaboration, 22 ‘families’ of primary schools within the South West have been created using the BGE Toolkit. The families are groups of schools with similar contexts. The main variable used was rurality initially to create 3 overall groupings, Rural, Urban and Small Towns. Within these 3 groups further consideration was given to both FSM and SIMD which then created 22 groups or ‘families.’ In the South West we have 8 Rural, 4 Small Towns and 10 Urban families. Partnered Schools were considered, and each partnership has been counted once with the largest school in the partnership used for grouping as most partnered schools are too small to show values.

Data packs for each school and family have been developed to allow staff to engage in discussions around raising attainment, closing the poverty related attainment gap and wider achievement.

A number of events have taken place to enable Head teachers to meet  their peers within their family, share their school’s strengths and development needs and identify common themes which could be addressed by collaborating further.

Microsoft Teams have now been set up for families to enable on-line collaboration.
