We are a council operated Early Years Centre resting in the heart of Prestwick town. We offer funded early learning and childcare for children aged 2-5 and our operating hours are from 8:00am until 6:00pm year round with the exception of public holidays.
We plan for children’s learning using the national curriculum, A Curriculum for Excellence to provide a well-balanced, planned programme of activities tailored to each individual child by providing suitable equipment in safe, nurturing surroundings. This will encourage the children’s natural curiosity and allow them the valuable opportunity to progress at their own pace in an educationally stimulating environment enabling them to achieve their full potential.
Our approach to learning is based upon the Reggio Emilia philosophy of learning. Staff ,children and the family work together in harmony to ensure each child is respected, loved and valued in early learning .
At the heart of this system is the powerful image of the child. Reggio staff do not see children as empty vessels that require filling with facts. Rather we see children as full of potential , competent and capable of building their own theories. The Rights of the Children as written by Loris Malaguzzi best describes how children are viewed.
