Every Monday morning Southcraig primary department and Holmston Primary School participate in inclusive experiences together. We learn to use Total Communication Skills such as Makaton signing, gesture, vocalisation, symbols and switches. We learn about equality, celebration of difference and how to apply equity to include everyone. Our Inclusive experiences run across the school year and involve every class in Holmston Primary from P.1 to P.7. In term 1 we work with P.7 learning Sherborne Developmental Movement Therapy. This is a play based therapy which teaches self-awareness and awareness of others. It’s fun and engaging and we enjoy sliding, balancing, rolling and swinging movements together. In term 2 we learn how to play inclusively with our P.1, P.2 and P.3 friends using parachutes, balls, games and action songs. In term 3 we read stories together with our P.4, P.5 and P.6 friends using Makaton, symbols, sensory stories and drama activities. Our fabulous work was nominated for an Education Scotland Award!
