A further option within the senior phase is volunteering. This experience allows young people to develop softer skill’s such as communication, teamwork etc. Young people who choose to volunteer can be accredited through the Scottish Government’s Saltire Awards. The Saltire Awards enable young volunteers to record the skills, experience and learning gained through successful volunteering placements in school or provided by local and national voluntary agencies.

In South Ayrshire, VASA (Voluntary Action South Ayrshire) can provide opportunities for young people to participate in volunteering.
