Early Years Pathways

The Scottish Government has set out proposals for further expanding the provision of funded early learning and childcare by 2020. This is a unique, one off, opportunity to fundamentally change the early learning and childcare provision within South Ayrshire to benefit future generations and families.

To meet the demands of 1140hours there will be a requirement to recruit additional staff. It is anticipated that we will require approx. 300 new staff in South Ayrshire by 2020.

Early learning and childcare is a professional workforce delivered by staff including teachers and early years practitioners (previously called nursery nurses). They provide high quality experiences for young children in line with Curriculum for Excellence. As part of the expansion there are increasing opportunities for progression and promotion within the workforce.

The attached presentation highlights the progression pathways for employment and training opportunities in Early Years.
