Improving Gender Balance and Equalities

After a pilot programme was carried out, Improving Gender Balance and Equalities (IGBE) Officers have been employed by Education Scotland to support Local Authorities in promoting equality and diversity in all aspects of education, not just in STEM subjects.

Here, you will have access to a wide range of materials which have been developed by the IGBE team in order to challenge gender stereotypes, address unconscious bias (which we all have), improve gender balance in the uptake of subjects and learner pathways, and approach these aspects from a whole-establishment perspective.

  • Quick start guides
  • Links to news and events
  • IGBE in a nutshell
  • Action guides and case studies (all educational establishments)
  • Written and video resources
  • Research and literature
  • Resources for practitioners
  • Resources for use with learners and young people
  • Other research related to gender and/or STEM

The South West Education Improvement Collaborative (SWEIC) has been allocated Amy Johnson as our Education Scotland IGBE Officer.  She can be contacted via Amy.Johnson@educationscotland.gov.scot.

The IGBE Team have created a document outlining key messages which can be accessed here.
