Video conferencing with pupils

Teams Meet within Glow should be used for communicating with pupils where, for safeguarding reasons, the pupil video camera is currently unable to be switched on. However, Skype for Business can be used to hold video calls with pupils if appropriate and approved by senior management. It could also be used to hold video calls with external partners and parents.

The use of two-way video conferencing with pupils should only be used in accordance with the guidance provided by South Ayrshire that can be found here.

Before you begin clearly define the purpose for using two-way video conferencing with pupils and ensure the following are in place:

each proposed two-way video meeting with pupils must be approved by senior management
• this type of meeting must only be arranged using Skype Web Scheduler and following the South Ayrshire guidance provided
• a record should be kept of each instance of use including, date, time, purpose and participants
• if possible, there should be more than one adult participating in the video
• parents/carers should be made aware of the arrangements and strongly recommend that they are present in the house at the time of the call and be within hearing distance at all times.  It is also strongly recommended that parental permission is sought.
