Sports Day
P1 had an absolutely brilliant sports day today!
we spent our morning doing Sticky Kids in the memorial hall then went outside in the afternoon for potted sports and races. We even got to see the Red Arrows!
REPORT CARDS
Please note all P1 report cards will be given out on Monday!
Week beginning 14.06.21
I really, really enjoyed listening to the butterfly poems today. The children worked so hard to write and perform their poetry. Well done, everyone!
I have added a few Learn Screens about poetry to Education City this week. Along with the Learn Screens I have also added three rhyming games.
In class we were creating maths challenge sheets for each other. Try doing this at home. The rules are simple. One person is in charge of creating an addition or subtraction maths challenge sheet that includes 10 questions. The other person has to answer those questions. Once they have answered the questions the original person must mark it to see if they answered the questions correctly. Try to keep the individual numbers under 20 please! Take turns creating the challenge sheets so everyone gets a chance to set the challenge.
I have added some addition and subtraction games to Education City to help inspire your challenge questions.
week beginning 7th June
This week I have a special task for you! Could you please work with an adult at home to write/create a butterfly poem.
LERANING POINTS
- I know the person who writes poems is called a poet.
- I know poems can use sound patterns: rhyme, rhythm.
- I can begin to write my own poem independently or with support.
You do not need to bring your poem into school, but I would like you to share your poem by reciting it to the class (if you wish) on Friday.
Education City: Have a look on Education City for subtraction games!
Homework week beginning 31st May
READING EGGS:
I have opened two driving test lessons on Reading Eggs. One focuses on reading short, three letter words and the other is about capital and lower case letters.
EDUCATION CITY:
There are two games and one topic tool on Education City. All three activities focus on numbers to 100.
It is almost time for parents evenings and report cards! Please talk with an adult about your learning this year. Have a think about your favourite P1 moments, what you are are really proud of and what you would like to learn when you are in P2. On Friday we will sit as a class and share our thoughts about these questions.
Have a lovely long weekend!
Homework week beginning 24.05.21
Log in to Reading Eggs and look for the tab called Fast Phonics. Click on the tab and start playing the games. The games begin with a teaching input then continue with some fun games to practice that sound.
You will also find the storylands sections under the heading games on Education City. Have a look and work your way through the levels.
I have added a Think it and an activity game on Education City. The Think and game are all about reading bar graphs for information and creating bar graphs. Have a look and enjoy answering!
On Education City you will also find one Learn It and two games that focus on halving and doubling. Please watch the Learn It and complete the games.
We have had another great week and the children have had so much fun. On Friday we released the butterflies in our garden area. It was lovely to watch them investigate their new surroundings! Should we ask Mrs Gilbert for a new class pet?
Cheering all the way!
We have been learning some cheerleading movements and creating our own routines during PE time. The class have set a challenge to create some new balance positions or maybe even try to create a pyramid!
Homework week beginning 17.05.21
Literacy: This week we are focusing on sentence writing. I have been encouraging the children to use finger spaces between each word and to try and write all the sounds that are in the words they want to write.
I have included a topic tool for making sentences on Education City. Spin the wheel to read the sentences and use it as a prompt to make your own sentences. You can either write down some new sentences or just say them.
I have also included a ‘Think it’ on Education City where you have to think of an ending for different sentences. Try to make the endings detailed and exciting!
Numeracy: We have been gathering data using tally marks. Once the data had been collected we learned how to record the data on a bar graph. At home create your own bar graph using the data you have collected from your family or friends. You can choose what data you want to collect and create your own title.
Twitter: Keep an eye on the school’s twitter page. I try to post photos as often as possible to let you see what is happening within the classroom.
I also just wanted to say how well all of the children are doing. They are so happy at school and I am very proud of how hard they are working and how well the play and learn together as a class.

homework week beginning 10th May
Numeracy: As you know we have been learning all about time. We can read O’clock and half past on both analogue and digital clocks. There are some games on Education City to help practise these skills.
Literacy: Build upon your reading skills by playing the games I have selected for this week on Education City.
When reading your books at home look out for some of the tricky words that are in the Education City Tasks. Remember how many words you have found and tell me the next day. I am going to keep tally marks for all of the words so we can see how many we have found as a class. Let’s challenge P1B to see who can find the most.
Enjoy!
