Setting the Table – this provides nutritional guidance and food standards for early years childcare providers in Scotland is a guidance publication for food provision in early years childcare provision. The aim is to ensure that children aged 0–5 in childcare settings across Scotland are offered healthy and nutritious meals, snacks and drinks.

  • Children who attend the Centre from 8am have access to a breakfast.
  •  A healthy snack of fruit is provided in the morning and afternoon for all children. This is often supplemented with toast, pancakes, crackers or oatcakes etc.
  • A 2-course lunch is provided for the children who are in the Centre over lunch time. The menu is made up of a three-week rotation and can be accessed here – Early Years Centres menu – South Ayrshire Council (south-ayrshire.gov.uk)
  • A high tea is provided for the children who are in the Centre after 4pm. This could be beans on toast, soup and bread etc.
