Eco Schools

The Eco group was formed in school session 2018-19 and consists of members elected by their class mates. In addition to the pupils the group also has a parent representative and a staff member, they are also supported by members of the wider school community who assist on a variety of Eco topics as required.

The group meet regularly throughout the school year having a mixture of formal meetings to discuss and plan our strategies and also to do practical tasks as we work towards or goal of attaining our green flag. Throughout our journey we keep the school and the community informed of our work through regular updates at school assembly and community times, newsletter items, tweets and information leaflets.

All of our actions come from the environmental survey we completed at the start of our journey and the plan that arose from it. Our topics include saving power, litter and the school environment and our Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) is responsible consumption and production.

All of which sounds very dry, in reality our little band very much enjoy our time together and have fun as we do our bit to save the planet. Our mantra is if we all do a little bit in school and take it home and to Troon and beyond, we can make a difference!

When you visit our school you will see lots of little indications of our work, signs urging people to save power that our pupils designed and our group made, our eco code around the school , the dog pooh dispensers around our grounds perimeter and kids collecting litter. Perhaps you send us crisp bags and old pens which we recycle as part of a national campaign and if not, it’s not too late to start. When you have read the information leaflets that come from school make sure you recycle them correctly. These are some of the little ways we can all be involved to make a difference.

Look out for our tweets, items in school newsletters and don’t for get to ask your child , together we can make a difference.
