Milestone 7

I can recognise and describe common 2D shapes and 3D objects.

This activity will develop your child’s knowledge of 2D and 3D shape.

Using the materials provided let your child explore with the shapes. Encourage them to sort out the shapes according to various criteria e.g. straight, round, flat and curved.

Using the 2D shapes allow your child to sort/match the shapes. When your child is confident at sorting/matching the 2D shapes, the next step is for them to recognise the shapes. To help your child with this, put out the shapes and ask your child if they can find a rectangle, square, triangle and a circle. Once you think they are confident at recognising the shapes you can move on to naming them, hold up a shape and see if they can tell you what it is.
