Culzean Visits

As our centre was recently successful in obtaining Carrick Futures funding, we were fortunate enough to be able to arrange a series of visits for all of our children to Culzean Estate with Adventure Centre for Education (ACE).

Our children, along with some parents and carers, have enjoyed exploring the outdoor environment. ACE have planned lots of fun games and activities for us such a treasure hunts, bug hunts and nature walks.

You can see from the photos how much fun we are having!

Busy bees

The staff and children from the Ladybird Room have planted some beautiful flowers in their new planters.
While outdoors, a group of children from the the Sunshine Room noticed that the flowers were attracting lots of bees. They watched them very closely and made a video of the bees collecting nectar to show all of the other children in the playroom.
Layla – “the bees suck all the nectar out of the flowers and then make it into honey”
Jay – “there’s lots of bees all over the flowers”
Dexter – “buzzy buzzy bees”

We were excited when a delivery of caterpillars arrived in the post!

We watched them ‘munch and crunch’ then get bigger and bigger. After turning themselves into chrysalides, we placed them carefully in a net and watched and waited while they ‘slept’. We came in on Monday morning to find that they had all changed into beautiful butterflies. We had to give them juicy fruits such as melon and oranges to make sure they didn’t get thirsty until we could release them outdoors.
